my dad is having probs with his hearing in one ear
the result is that he turns the tv up to earbashing volume levels for the rest of us

i am thinking of an av amp and 5.1 with the rear speakers either side of where he usually sits, balanced so the volume on the deafer side is higher

tv is 26inch crt with sky box and dvd player connected

any [sensible] alternatives

thanks

A Yamaha RX-V359 will do what you require. You would need to set the output to 5 Channel stereo then adjust the levels on the rear speakers to suit. If you run in DD (5.1) the dialogue tends to be on the centre speaker which would not help.

Other Av Amps are likely to have a similar feature.

I'm sure on our Sanyo tv if you plug in a set of headphones. It still plays through the speakers aswell though whether that works for other tvs i dont know
