Have you ever been on a forum where the rules permit only posts like 'Thats not to my taste'? It's dull and boring. Somebody posts a pink Corsa, 10 people say 'Thats nice' 5 people say 'Not to my tastes but I'm glad you like it' and the thread dies. How thrilling.

-- yes ive often seen you go further and generally slate corsa's or such

Is it not far better to explain WHY you dont like it, and suggest reasons which contribute to why you don't like it?

-- agreed but theres a difference to explaining and slating

I don't come on here to slate peoples cars either, I come on here to engage in discussion about all different types of cars with all different types of people with all different types of opinion.

--good then we're alike

Do you think he'd have come on here and explained to us exactly how he had gone about lowernig the car, why he made the choices he did and how it had all worked if this thread was 20 different people saying it 'Was not to my taste old boy'? Of course not. We got an amusing thread, a collection of opinions and a bit of fact from the owner. The only time it turned hostile was... oh yes, following a snide remark from yourself :)

-- makes it more interesting tho right ? that and i know im not the only one to be against some of the things you post, downright rude at times.

The very nature of something posted on the internet is that it is asking for opinions.

-- i agree

Becuase this forum LOVES bandwagons. Stuff becomes legend and new members just lap it up. The 306 DTurbo thing for example. A few people said if you adjust a screw its a bit quicker. Suddenly the entire form repeatedly takes the mick for several years about screwmodded 306's are rocket ships.

-- missed that thread :)

What you said is simply false - I recommend/praise NUMEROUS different cars IRRESPECTIVE of badges and have even stated I would rather have an Audi RS4 over an E60 BMW M5, and that 1 Series are rubbish and you'd be better off with an A3 or a Focus. Well thats the words of somebody for whom if it isnt a BMW, its rubbish, isn't it? Oh, no, actually.

-- when you drove a mondeo you were constantly recommending mondeo's :/ i agree you do recommend decent cars (your knowledge surpasses mine im sure) but some of the time your downright rude.

Pot calling kettle black = people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones = your posting style isn't exactly Mr Mature.

-- and your immediate reply was?

This is going to take some effort as thats some of the worst quoting I've ever experienced..

-- yes ive often seen you go further and generally slate corsa's or such

I don't like Corsas. So I will criticise then when I get an opportunity but I am always happy, and usually do, offer full justification for my opinion.

-- makes it more interesting tho right ? that and i know im not the only one to be against some of the things you post, downright rude at times.

This is where the pot/kettle thing comes in. The only reason this thread has gone the way it is is becuase of the comment YOU made about why I held the opinion I did. You told someone to ignore what I say, and offered a false, incorrect reason for doing so. Yet you then go on to say *I* am rude? How curious.

-- when you drove a mondeo you were constantly recommending mondeo's :/

Of course I was, and I still do. Why? Becuase IMHO they are damn good cars. Thats why I bought one. How does that suddenly mean I thought every other car was rubbish? I didn't. Infact I'd often recommend a Primera OVER a Mondeo for certain peoples requirements. Not the stuff of a true blinkered fanboy that, is it? And it's the same with BMW's - they can cost an absolute fortune when they go wrong and I'm not blind to that and don't recommend them to all and sundry as a result.

Of course, me 'constantly recommending' Mondeos and you saying that I believe 'If its not a BMW its unroadworthy' are a tad contradictory, don't you think?

But don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant, eh?

This thread will soon be locked I would imagine, and people will think 'Look, theres Fox, arguing again', as happens every time I try and defend myself from the groundless rubbish people spout :) I've never disputed that I have strong opinions and a certain... blunt way of putting things but I'll continually dispute having irrational bias towards any particular marque.

I don't like Corsas. So I will criticise then when I get an opportunity but I am always happy, and usually do, offer full justification for my opinion.

appologies to the thread poster and audi owner and anybody else who is annoyed at me for getting it side tracked... fox just annoys me at times, and i know im not the only one :) if only he didnt post in 90% of threads so i could enjoy them :p

This sort of opinion is just soo... MEH. It's not all they can afford, Corsas cost from £200 to £15000 and there are other cars for every budget. 'Its just right for them' whats that supposed to mean? Most poeple are like you, they never think outside the box.

I make a point of NEVER criticising somebody who has done the absolute best they can afford. If somebody drives around in a £500 Fiesta with rust all up the side, becuase they simply couldnt find more than £500 and they sat down and looked at the best car for their money, they'll not be criticised by me. If they had spent £5000, instead, however, it's fair game.

the number of them on the road suggests that they're doing something right

I've explained this one before so I wont do it again but needless to say it has everything to do with fleet deals, incentives and marketing and nothing to do with how good the car is (With the exception of the new model Corsa which is, at long last, a good small car).

-- must have missed all of those primera suggestions as well, very strange...

Not very strange at all, its to be expected from someone like you who sees no problem with sniping at somebody and having a right go without bothering to gather a few facts or to check the accuracy of their claims first :)

BMW's can cost an absolute fortune in repairs, but the most common car on the road is a 3 series isnt it ?

The most common car on the roads in terms of sales numbers over the last 8 years is the Focus 1.6 Zetec. Quite how ubiquity relates to reliability I don't know. Whats your point here?

maybe you just think everyone should drive what you drive,

Of course I don't. I put more people OFF buying a 5 Series than I recommend to get one. They are simply rubbish value for money. Why would I want everyone to drive the same car as me anyway? How dull would that be? Why do you keep judging people based on meaningless and false assumptions?

i have no idea how you mind does or does not work.

Yet you'll have a go at guessing instead, right? I mean hey, assumption works for you, yea?

you are over blunt, perhaps you should just take abit of advise that i have seen dished to you more than once, just chill and give the advise in a slightly less of a tizzy

I once asked the forum what they wanted me to do. I said I'd basically stop being blunt and stop posting negative opinions. The thread grew to 3-4 pages of people telling me to stop being so wet. So technically speaking, I did take the advice of the forum.

... fox just annoys me at times, and i know im not the only one if only he didnt post in 90% of threads so i could enjoy them

You ABSOLUTE hypocrit! YOU and YOU ALONE destroyed this thread by constantly picking at me. It's only natural that I'm going to attempt to defend myself from your comments, is it not? Until YOU started, this thread was WHOLLY AND TOTALLY about the Audi. Becuase of YOU, it is now a stupid, petty little arguement.

If you dislike me as much as you say, why don't you simply STOP REPLYING TO ME? The fact of the matter remains that had you said nothing, none of the last page would ever have occured.

You contribute NOTHING to this forum yet you feel you are in a position to lecture me and make false accusations about what I do and do not post?

If you feel that strongly, then STOP REPLYING TO MY POSTS. I was not the only person to criticise the Audi in this thread. Infact, actually there were considerbaly more negative than positive comments. Many people said it was pointless, but I am the only person you've singled out.

If you put even HALF as much effort into your other posts as you did your half-assed attempt to **** me off you'd contribute a lot more to this forum.

Are you having problems controlling the VOLUME OF YOUR VOICE?

On a more serious note, don't rise to the bait.

Yes. His posts in this thread are perhaps more annoying than anything I've had the misfortune to read all week. Quite why he feels me saying that A8 looked crap was inappopriate yet him bitching and crying about how much I ruin his life is acceptable beyond me.

I'd find it a little more acceptable.. perhaps.. if he'd researched his opinion first or at least got a bit of fact in there, becuase there are some criticisms levelled at me that are actually pretty accurate. But instead we get conjecture, assumption, bandwagon jumping and nothing of any real substance from somebody who.. well, who is he anyway?

A8VIP said:
*looks for Burberry cap* A Chav, you say? I can't see anything on this car that would associate me with such a person. You have about as much foundation for calling me a Chav, as I have calling you a Retard. You may want to check the correct definition of the word before applying it to your posts.

Oh, you again, I refer you to my previous post....

Its hard to put into words what i actually meant, this will sound snobby but it just looks like the kind of car i would expect to see parked on a council estate, thats all, not for what it is, but for how it has been modified. A8's are nice cars and that car would be very subbtle and nice if it were left standard, but now it just looks a bit "bling" if thats the right word. Not my cup of tea at all.

I dont really care if that sounds rude, its only an opinion and if i were you i wouldnt give a second thought to what people on the internet thought about your car, you clearly like it and thats completely fair game. I am sure many people on here dislike the vehicle i am looking to purchase at the moment, i like it however and therefore i will get one.

Only on OcUK can one person say a car looks crap yet someone insult insult the driver and call him a chav and its the person who said the car looked crap who gets the abuse :D

Your free to defend yourself as you see fit, im simply sharing my opinion of you as i am entitled to do. i suppose all of your 55,000 posts were informative and down to earth :) ? If i didnt reply to you and tell you how i felt then i wouldn't be being me. your right, you weren't the only person to criticize the audi, but as i keep saying.. the way you criticize could be done in a different and more user friendly manner, give your reasons... fine... but no need to go off on one!

the reason i've singled you out, is because its not the first time, i do apologize i dont spend 30-60 mins a night trolling the forum watching and waiting for you to post and analyze every comment or quote you make, if i did i might have more quotable ammunition to use from the list of pointless replies ive seen you post over the years.

Who i am doesn't matter, in the same way it doesn’t matter. feel free to post back and slate grammar or punctuation or whatever you want to do to make yourself look like the bigger man, im not alone in my thoughts of you being an occasionally informative and reasonable poster but then ruining it by being, at times, downright rude!

And finally, if you spent half as much effort as you did in replying to these posts being slightly more selective in your choice of wording your opinion/s you'd annoy less people!

Thread back on topic please.

Yes im finished, but im afraid i dont follow with the 'you are now' part?

Apologies again for taking it off topic.

FFS girls give it a rest.

Anyway, A8VIP: When I said abysmal I meant from a comfort and practicality point of veiw. I may handle better (although going low and stiff doesn't automatically make a car handle better), but I wasn't specifically talking about handling.

Anyway that aside I do like way your car looks, as I stated in my original post, I love the VIP look

Dunno why I didn't mention this earlier but VIP also owns (amongst other cars) a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass 5.0 Supreme ;)

Mmmmm...
