Whats the biggest DIY job you've taken on? I'm thinking of doing the wall plastering on my house, I might be being optomistic but it can't be that hard surely?

I punched a hole in a wall in my rented flat and I managed to fix it. Considering I am rubbish at DIY I did a bloody good job.

Either that or using a dremel to cut a blowhole in my PC case, again. I am rubbish at DIY so this was pretty big for me :)

Plastering is an art to do properly. It is something I unfortunetly do not have the skill to do and look reasonable :(

I've never done this well.

The biggest DIY job I've done probably involved IKEA flat packs :D. Oh hold on, I relaid the garage roof with felt and bitumen etc... Nothing major.

I did a bit when I refitted the bathroom, it's an absolute piece of bun if it's just to fill a hole that will be covered by tiles. If you want a surface you can paint or wallpaper then it's better to pay a professional.

Plastering is a PITA :(

I have to plaster the new ceiling I put up, I will be applying lining paper before I paint it though.

Erm, erm .......ermmmm...

I laid my kitchen floor, fitted an outside tap and soldered all the joints, did a small (and pretty poor) amount of plastering. Various other stuff. DIY is pretty fun when it goes right.

im currently stripping my house and completely redoing it. Although we've been in 8 months i still havent finished the front room, mainly due to having other stuff that needs doing :(

The old owner was a DIY freak and tbh he was rubbish, there isnt a single room in the house that has not got at least 5 problems. I stripped all the built in cupboards from the lounge, ripped out the fire place and put in a new one.

However, the hardest job so far has been fitting the oak skirting, its a very hard wood which makes cutting and sanding a royal PITA. Not to mention that none of the walls are straight :(

Ive then got the dining room to do, then the master bedroom. After that, the garden which will be a huge job, the bathroom and the office. Finally the kitchen.

I suck at DIY. I really suck at DIY and even changing an electrical socket takes ages.

Luckily for me the wife is a dab hand at most DIY. Anything else I call my pet builder, who is cheap!

My dad was a plasterer and showed me stuff way back when i was just a little nipper, in my experience, any can plaster a small gap in a wall, however when it comes to plastering a complete wall i wouldnt even try.

If your going to attempt it though here is one little tip i remember, apply the plaster to the wall but dont try to reshape/flatten it properly until its dried a little bit. its much easier to do when its tacky than when is just been applied.

Oh, and work fast :D

All i do now is call a mate in, he is a pro and i pay him by fixing his PC whenever he needs it doing.

plasterers here in belgie make cracking cash from plastering i wish i could do it... it's liquid gold. even the poles charge through the nose for it.

Built a wooden decking on the front of an uncles house in Canada once... took a couple of weeks... left [most of] the painting for him, though!!

I'll do pretty much any DIY but decorating is another thing. I won't touch a paint brush for love nor money, it bores me to death and is never satisfactory. I'll happily rewire a house though.

Ripped the entire inside out of a Welsh mining house and started again! ouch

:( never again, even if the results were far better than expected.

Gutted and re-fitted the main bathroom including relocating the water pipes and all re-doing all the tiling. Also did the same to the downstairs bathroom. Fitted new laminate flooring in the downstairs lounge and kitchen.
