"Hardly anyone plays fps on the pc"

I reckon halo on pc isnt a good game, when compared to unreal tournament and quake series.

Its slow paced and easy to control with a controller, but when you play it on pc it just feels TOO slow and there isnt enough nuance to the gameplay.

Halo - good console game, crap pc game.

I've generally been a multiplatform gamer all mylife, for me it was strategy, FPS, and space type games on PC, racing and some of the big console specific franchises on console.

Now I have to watch my money more I have pretty much moved completely to PC gaming as i decided I would rather have a good PC than one of the current consoles because while not all games i want to play are on PC the main ones are.

Generally keyboard and mouse > controllers for FPS games, but I have done something naughty... I've just played through about 80 hours on fallout 3 using the 360 pad, was so nice to lie on my bed for a change :)

game-monitor

doesn't include private games or new games eg.. BF Bad company 2 or Modern Warfare 2
and there still about 1000 ppl playing halo 1 at peak times :)

Considering that MW2, which I'm guessing is convincingly the most popular FPS on PS3 has (based on the number online when I'm at my friend's) maybe 50 000 people online at a time (at a push), that's pretty similar to the PC numbers, and CS1.6 and CSS are nearly as popular as MW2 on PC... So sure, they may sell better on consoles (console gamers aren't exactly known for being picky) but in terms of community numbers, to say that no one plays FPS on PC is ridiculous

Steam Stats

Sorry for excessive use of brackets

FPS doesnt exactly work on console like it does on pc. Its more about spam and action and lots of ketchup. With pc its an art :p

Left 4 dead on a console might be the best one. I really liked soldier of fortune on 360, that works well but you get extremely powerful weapons at close range so that'd be why mostly :D

I am surprised to see Empire Total War fairly high on the stats I didn't think it was that popular and I got borred after 5 hours, maybe i should give it another go... oh wait CivV out in 4 days thats me sorted for 3 years!

He is on about the mid-90s when FPS only really came out on the PC. Then they started porting some of them to the PS1 such as quake 2. I can remember people saying why would you want that on a console.

If you think about the way that first person shooters evolved, they started on the PC. People for the longest time tried to port shooters from the PC onto the console. And people said the same things that they are saying now about Kinect – “It’s never going to be responsive enough to do this,” or “You’re never going to get a fun first person shooter on the console – it’s only made for a keyboard and mouse and that is the way it is supposed to be played.” And as long as everyone was just porting the existing shooters over to console, they weren’t as fun as the PC ones. Of course, they were built for the PC.

He is comparing that to today, where the console versions are the main focus with the game usually ported to the PC.

I find this line more relevant:

And as long as everyone was just porting the existing shooters over to console, they weren’t as fun as the PC ones. Of course, they were built for the PC.

The thing about those sort of games... either you get bored fairly easily or you will play it religiously for a long, long time. That applies with Civ even more so :p

I was always terrible at Civ :(
