Took a little trip to RAF Cottesmore today and took some shots of the Harriers. This is the first time I've shot planes before (although the Harrier is fairly slow on landing and takeoff so it's not that hard to photograph).

That one photo in particular looking up the runway is just fantastic!!

There were 6 Harriers to go up (2 at a time). It wasn't until the last pair were taxiing that I worked out I could get a lot closer to the runway than where I was so I only got the last one really close up. Next time i'll know better.

Standing behind the Harriers when they take off sure is loud! Luckily I had earplugs in although this wasn't my only problem. Between the heat haze, burned fuel vapour and the blue sky background my auto-focus lost the plot half way down the runway! :D

nice pictures there mate

edit: What lens were you using?

Cheers!

It was a 70-300 IS USM on a 20D. The EXIF information should be on all the pictures if yo click the little camera symbol under the photo.
