Hey guys, I've got a Vantec Spectrum UV LED Fan Card

31ESQ3MPGJL._AA280_.jpg

sat under my GPU, well before the cold air was hitting the plastic cover so I've taken that off so now its just the bare card with its heat sink and fan with my Vantec fans blowing cool air onto the heat sink and feeding the fan more/cool air which has stopped my gpu temps by 10c :)

Dont it do as good with the plastice cooler? I'm thinking of getting one of these for my HD2900XT coz the fan on it suks.

Plastic cover was blocking the air floor straight into the heat sink which is why im getting lower temps id say, does look ugly like lol

If you dont care about warrenty, I would saw the plastic cover in half, so the fan on the end is channelled and directed at the end of the heatsink better. That way both your addon fan card, and the original 'geforce' fan are both working efficiently.

Why not make a new plastic cover?

What temp differences do you get when having the plastic cover on and using that fan compared to not using the fan?

Gonna leave it how it is for now, idle temps are 64c from 72c and load temps are 74c from 82c. I've just set ATI Tool to find max core but its downclocking...wtf?

It's proberbly finding artifacts.

64 is still high for idle temps, well I would have thought so with that cooling.

64 as and idle temp for a 8800 on air isn't too bad at all. My 8800gts idled in the high 70s a lot of the time. Nice and cool now I'm on water though.

I don't think ATItool supports overclocking the 8800 series cards automatically. You have to adjust the clocks yourself.

The fan on the graphics card will only work properly if the plastic cover is on. Its a centrifugal fan, and draws air from the centre and out through the sides. If you could cover the fan as mentioned with half of the cover, it would work a lot better.
