Has anyone traced their family history?

Hi, firstly, sorry for cluttering this forum with my second topic in one day.

I was wondering if anyone here has ever traced their family history? I have been interested in doing so for a few years now, but never really bothered. I could use google, but I would prefer some recommendations from anyone with first hand experience. So, can anyone recommend a good site? I'm willing to pay if it's a good one.

Any input much appreciated.

My dad is pretty into it,

I think genes-reunited part of friends-reunited is pretty cool, next time I speak to my dad I will ask him about it

Get your immediate family to detail all the stuff they know with dates etc; preferably with any birth certificates etc for proof.

Work backwards from there, being careful to get as much proof as poss' ...

Lots of info and help on the interweb thingy but a couple of good places are ... Here and Here

check and double check everything .... otherwise, you'll find yourself looking up someone elses relations, thinking they are yours.

I got into this a while ago, managed to trace my family back to the early 1800's purely with online sites. Be warned that it does get a bit addictive !

Same, my dad is continuing from what my granddad did. IIRC during the 1600s we had a smuggler in the family and in the 1800s a rich printer :eek:
