Im doing it at the moment and was wondering if there were any massive dos or donts? Im in Noosa at the moment and loving every min so far. Realised that I aint as yet turned to the geek knowledge that is OcUK!

Peace

I know this is 6 months ago, but Noosa is an ace place. Been there a couple of times to visit my cousins, one of them is a chef at a top restaurant there too.

I've done it - twice. Both times North to South.

Ah found Noosa on a map - it's just south of Torquay. Gotta go there - there's bound to be a Fawlty Towers :D I flew from Cairns to Brisbane so no idea about inbetween.

Go to Byron Bay. : )

This.

Man I miss Oz. Wasn't a fan of Noosa or Surfers Paradise, the rest kicked arse.

If you can, take the helicopter trip over the Twelve Apostles, Camp on Fraser Island, Sky Dive over Mission Beach, Scuba dive at the Barrier Reef, sail the Whitsundays, and the most difficult, appreciate how lucky you are :)

Also! go hug a Koala at Steve Irwins zoo.

Me too. Beaches get a little boring after a while and i was crap trying to learn surfing!!

Take the helicopter trip over the Twelve Apostles
The road journey along the Great Ocean Road is also incredible if you are venturing into that part of the country.

Camp on Fraser Island

Sky Dive over Mission Beach

Scuba dive at the Barrier Reef

sail the Whitsundays

Yes. Do all of these! Fraser Island is beautiful!

edit-before you do any of this, go to a dive shop and buy your own mask and snorkel unless you want to use one that's been gobbed into a million times (that's how people stop them fogging up). There are loads of opportunities to snorkel even if you don't fancy diving.

Pick a nice boat for Whitsundays if it's within your means.

For both the above, get your own booze before you do the trip but i'm sure you'll be made aware of that.

Brisbane is worth spending a few days in. Nice change from beaches, some good museums and parks and probably the most relaxed atmosphere of the major cities on the east coast.

Cairns Reef Dive are a good company to learn to dive with. Dive centres generally have a high turnover of staff but the teaching when i was there was superb. You can also spend a couple of days diving with them after you have done your basic open water course and again the staff are a good laugh and the atmosphere on the boat is excellent as well as the places they take you diving. Although when i was there i spent most of my free time in the captain's cabin watching the cricket!!

And don't spend too long in Byron Bay/Ninbin off your face but there is one place there where you can make your own didgeridoo if you're into that!!

Have a lovely time!!
:)

Good ol' Goon.

Take photos, lots of photos.
Also I found travelling by Oz Experience was a great way to meet people.
My only don't, assuming your'e hosteling is to eat out all the time, ends up costing a fortune.

Yes, best part of Australia by far!!! As the above post mentioned really. I'm not sure if they still do the whole hire a truck/tent and camp on Fraser Island - think you have to go with a tour rep or something - is this the case?
Whit Sundays were very cool and relaxing. Byron Bay is a good place to party, Surfers is a mess but again good nightlife. Try and do a 2-3 day surf trip where you just go to the middle of no where - camp, eat, sleep and surf :D

I moved to Brisbane just over a year ago, Noosa is one of my favorite places ever! Spent my honeymoon there!

Going up to Mooloolaba this weekend, its going to be 28 degrees.......

Don't go swimming in a Creek, unless you fancy being eaten by a croc...

Yeah i have been up east coast....fantastic place....

Would definitely echo the camping on Fraser island comments.
If there are a few of you I would recommend hiring a 4x4 and driving around yourself, it's awesome.

If you're in Noosa at the minute it's not too far as there are places in Rainbow Beach and Torquay to sort it out.
