Got in last night, turned my pc on which tried starting then one single long beeb and nothing :( Its not getting to the bios, nothings appearing on screen and it doesn't seem to get anywhere.

I've tried unplugging and reconnecting everything, switching memory around and kicking.

Looks to me that the mobo's gone but have no easy way of checking. Does this sound right before I go off and get another mobo?

DFI LanParty nf4

Thanks,
Cheesy.

I've tried unplugging everything non-essential and it still won't boot.

Haven't tried reseting the CMOS because I didn't think it would make a difference if I can't get into the bios as it is.

I'm having to use someone else's pc to post, so will have to wait till I get back home to try anything :(

1 long means BIOS has passed all POST checks.. Sounds like a Video problem.. Is the light on the VDU amber or green.. Try using a different screen/VGA cable just to eliminate your monitor/cable. The next port of call is the video card.

Cheers, I couldn't find this in the manual (and I couldn't get online to check).

COuld it be the CPU? or would it still get to the bios?

I think that mobo uses the award BIOS. A CPU error would give a a series of bleeps..

I'm pretty sure the monitor is not recieving a signal. You need to eliminate the monitor/VGA cable as suggested above first.

Ill try a different dvi cable when I get in but have no way of checking if there is a problem with the gfx card. If I'm getting a single long beep then nothing presumably that means that there is a problem with the mobo/cpu regardless of whether my gfx card is laying up as well.

well sometimes things go wrong for no obvious reason i'm afraid ..

You need to do the basic checks first... (i'm assuming your at work at not near the PC...

Is the amber or green light showing on your monitor?

Have you tried the unit on a different monitor and cable?

do you see the POST message apearing on the screen?

According to DFI 1 long beep suggests a problem with the memory. This sounds odd seeing as I've switched the two modules I've got to both run on their own which means they're both borked?

You would be very unlucky to get two faulty modules granted. Make sure the slots are clean and free of dust and that that there aren't any jumpers you have to set etc.. Check the mobo manual..

It could be that the memory controller is faulty.. Try the memory you do have on another system if you can.. or get your hands on some memory just to try and boot in memtest..
