Has my phone battery seen better days?

Hi,

My phone's battery seems to be going down very quickly, it used to last really well I would only use 30% in a day but I've just plugged it in as it was on 2%

I've checked app usage in the battery settings but they all single digits

It's a Nokia 6, two and half years old and I've never reset it, is it worth resetting in case it's some kind of software issue?

I don't want to change it yet as I'm waiting for the 6.3 later this year

Apps like Accubattery and I believe GSAM can tell you the battery capacity after a few charges so maybe worth trying them.

Very occasionally you can get a rogue app that drains a lot of battery but then stops. I find GSAM as mentioned above the best way to help identify which apps are using the most battery but to get the best results you need to do a little bit of tweaking with ADB which is surprisingly easy to use and GSAM does give a guide to do the tweaks. However GSAM doesn't always identify all the battery draining apps.

To simplify using ADB using the Minimal Install version is the best.

One thing that can cause massive battery drain is a faulty MicroSD card which can cause Media Manager to constantly try to read it so if you have one fitted temporarily removing it can indicate if it's at fault.

Thanks a lot I do have a SD card fitted that's been fitted the whole two and a half years I've had the phone. I'll look into the suggestions thanks

Hmm, I know it's not been installed long but Gsam just states the screen is using the battery, 76% down from 100% in one hour 99% screen

My old nexus 6P went from decent battery life to terrible battery life in a very short time frame. It was then when I dug around and found the batteries used were rubbish.

How do you charge phone? Plug in overnight or let it drain and charge when needed?

I plug it in overnight, always have with all my phone's and I generally keep them a couple of years or more

Gsam now says the screen off time is using more battery than the screen on time and it's now down to 60% and it's only been unplugged 1 hour 40 mins

I'd backup, wipe and rebuild your phone. Leave it bear othet than gsam and see if its just as bad

I think that's what I need to do, don't they auto backup though, so if I wipe it it rebuilds?

Is there anywhere in android I can check these settings please, I though it just did it automatically

I bekieve it only restores apps but not data. Things like WhatsApp history etc can be saved in the cloud. Photos/Google Photos are in the cloud.

I couldn't say for sure so not worth thr risk.

You need to enable 'More Stats' but to do that (unless you are rooted) you need to install ADB on your PC and follow the guidance that GSAM gives to enable permissioms.

Thanks, i've wiped it now though, figured it needed doing anyway. Its only just fully charged so I'm keeping an eye on it but it has used 5% in the last 40 minutes or so since it disconnected from the charger.
