Has the Xbox 360's PSU got a fan inside?

Used to have my PSU behind my console, but recently moved my stuff around meaning that the PSU and console are a few feet apart.

Was tidying up wires around the PSU when I heard a humming sound... could this be the start of PSU problems and the end of my Xbox, I asked myself?

Picked the PSU up and you can hear a slight hum... as well as feeling a slight breeze coming from the vents.

Just done a quick search on Google but didn't bring anything up, so has the 360's PSU got a built-in cooling fan?

It's a sealed plastic block, the air you felt was from the fans on the back of the console :p

No chance. PSU is a few feet in front of the console.

And the PSU isn't sealed. There are vents :)

Just held it to my ear, there's definitely a fan in there. Suprised I've not seen it mentioned before.

Oh yeah, just tried it, there is indeed a breeze from the PSU while the xbox is on..

You learn something new every day :D

Yep, there's a small fan. The vents on either end can get clogged with dust as a result so it's a good idea check that every now and again.

Thought that it was well known that there's a fan in the PSU.

It's only since the PSU has been away from the console that I've noticed. I've never seen anything written down about it either.

A lot of people complain about it whining ;)

Then those people are stupid :p I can only really hear it when I'm close to the PSU.

Then I'm stuuuuupid :p, because my last 360's PSU was noisier that my 360 on the dash, in fact for a week I thought all the noise was coming from my 360 until I moved my PSU further away and only then I realised that my 360 wasn't actually that loud on the dash board, if you have a look about on the net it seems that the 175watt psu's that come with the newer consoles tend to whine more.

Yea found this out awhile ago when my second 360 started to break. Thought it was the PSU which i had underneath a dusty shelf, only to find there was a fan inside it. Wasn't a good idea keeping it under there after all!
