right i need some help please

i installed the latest nvidia drivers the other day and and noticed the settings had changed, i looked and the GPU settings and saw that multi-monitor was selected, so i changed it to multi-gpu, now the stupid part of this was a virus scan was running in the background, once it restarted everything was crawling at a snales pace and the screen kept flicking off for 6-8 secs then on for 5 then off etc...

ive rebooted in safe-mode and removed the drivers but once i re-install them the problems persist, have i killed the card?

Sounds somehow like you've managed to set the core or memory clocks too high... but its a bit strange it persisted after a reinstall if that was the case... do you have riva tuner installed? as the newer control panels have been playing silly games with the control panel applet and you have to use another program (nTune) to get to them :S which is kind dumb.

If you could get the current core and memory speed tho it would be helpful.

otherwise...

go into the advanced nVidia control panel and under 3D Settings->manage 3D settings make sure that these are set to:

Multi-GPU performance mode: NVIDIA recommended (default value)
Multiple graphics card acceleration: Single display performance mode

You might want to try setting the Multi-GPU performance mode to single GPU, hit apply, then change it back to the above setting.

the thing is i can't access the nvidia control panel, once the drivers are installed its impossible to change the settings, is there anyway of doing this in safe mode? when i go to control panel and click the nvidia controller in safe mode it does nothing

sounds like the install is fubared, the only thing to do is start over. Did you use Drivercleaner in safe mode? If not files get left over, even in safe mode. Take it all out, use Drivercleaner Pro in safe mode. Uninstall any graphics apps like riva etc. Put in the latest drivers you trust and coolbits and see what happens.

tried driver cleaner, restarted and installed the drivers and the problems the same as before, halfway into the install the problems return and once rebooted they persist

is it time to ring EVGA?
 
Try a complete windows reformat before anything else :) . If the problem still persists(with different drivers as well), then it may be time to call evga :)
