Have I made a mistake with buying this PSU

Again... another "I bought a rubbish PSU" post. Why? It's the heart of your machine! Makes no sense to me. They're relatively cheap things for a completely reliable proper brand and will ensure your expensive machine runs stably and reliably. Just a no-brainer to me.... so many horror stories of people buying pants cheap PSUs and having their expensive mobos/cpus/ram/graphics cards/HDDs fried or work lost.

Can we start some kind of a "Buy a proper PSU FFS!" campaign?!

Hey there,
I did briefly have the same PSU to power an old desktop and I can confirm that it actually only outputs 480 Watts across "dual-rails".
While this PSU has not given up yet I wouldn't recommend it considering the price you pay for poor connectivity and such poor efficiency.
As previously mentioned XFX would be a good choice in a similar price range.

You could try saying it has not got the correct connections but not having the receipt will hinder you as you might only get a credit note without it.
Or they might be willing to exchange it (they do XFX psu's at -------).

A reciept isn't required only proof of purchase which could be anything from a bank statement if you paid by card or the stores name on the packaging if it's own brand. If it doesn't have a pci-e connector I'd question it being fit for purpose, but take a look here and see what grouncds you can 4return it under:
