Have you ever been to the British F1 Grand Prix ?

went in 2004 i think at woadcoat b. Really enjoyed it but there was no atmosphere, stand as full of men in suits trying to talk on there mobile phones no real fans around.

I went last year with a few mates for the entire weekend, absolutely brilliant.
We originally tried to get tickets for Farm, but they had sold out sharpish so went for Club.

On the Friday we spent mincing about walking the circuit as it's open to go anywhere.
On the Saturday we were able to access the Grand Stand looking down on the Paddock for Qualy, the atmosphere was top notch watching Button land himself 2nd spot.
The Sunday was then spent in our designated seating area. We were pretty fortunate enough to have a screen dead opposite as well as a radio to hear exactly what's going on.
For after the race we took along a BBQ & Poker set to enjoy while all the traffic flooded away.

Overall a great experience, the sun was absolutely spot on all weekend, it was amusing to be asked where I had been on holiday, only to answer 'Silverstone' to a slightly suprised face!
However while myself & my mates are huge F1 fans, we shall be skipping Silverstone this year, partly because we also have interests in other motorsports, namely Le Man, but also so that it feels 'fresh' come our return in 2008.

Things I'd recommend:
Radio - Critical to get the feeling of whats going on, for example when Kimi was catching Button it was great to hear the split-times falling & visually seeing it as they lapped.
Cap/Sun Cream - If your as lucky with the weather as last year, remember to pack this, I don't suffer from the sun personally, but my mates found this a God send.
Qualy Grand Stand Area - Definately gain access to this to overlook the Paddock, very interesting to see the team's operating & awesome to hear the car's blat at full chat over the line.
Race Luffield Terrace? - From walking about, this concreted area looked a fairly decent place if you took your own seat along, plenty of 'F1 fans' based here.
BBQ - Chill & relax afterwards, let everyone else sweat there way out!

My old man used to work on track out of one of the garages on site...

He would work even on F1 day.. and just before the race.. cycle home and watch it on TV...

I went a few years ago when it was really hot. Was a good race too. I got a free ticket and went with my bro (who paid £160) and we sat on the inside of the track on Copse corner.

Was really awesome, the noise, the speed - the atmosphere is great, everyone should go to one F1 race if they are an F1 fan.

Well I've just been and bought the tickets cant wait, thanks for all your advice. Just need to find somewhere to sleep for the Saturday night.

it's going to have to be camping, hotels around silverstone for the GP weekend are going to be a tad expensive ! :o

Don't forget there is a F1 testing next week tues/wed/thurs at Silverstone (free entry).

Renualt, Red Bull, Midland, BMW, McLaren and Williams are meant to be there :)

I been once and wouldnt bother again, free ticket and a seat on the final bend cant remember what the stands called, then had the lend of a paddock pass, which was the best part saw Rubens Ken Clarke and Carol Vorderman and some other C listers.

I ve also seen WSB at Silverstone this was far better I was in the BRDC building ( no muppets with air horns) and a pit lane pass.

I know someone who used to work for Brands Hatch.

I do fancy going to see the Moto GP at donny though

Yeah, I forget the year exactly but if was the year after Damon Hill drove for Arrows.

Got a VIP invite with arrows for the weekend, full hospitality, pit lanes passes, the works. Pedro Diniz and Mika Salo were driving for Arrows at the time, got to hang out (quietly and unobtrusively) in the Arrows garage during testing times to see everything going on, the permanent noise was fantastic.

Just being able to wander around the whole inner area type place (I don't know the "technical term" :o ) for the weekend was great, we were up close with all the drivers and loads of other celebs all the time but it was all nice and relaxed and most were really friendly.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, and I know it won't help you make a decision but reading your post made me reminisce about it. :D

I wouldn't pay to go personally, but for me F1 died with Senna and his era.

I'll be going this year. Dunno what i'm going to be doing, whether travelling up on the day or staying overnight, but all will be decided at some point. Can't remember the exact name of where I am but it's just before the pit straight, so hopefully a good seat (and covered thank god).
