HAWX 2 Release 11th November, Reviews/Problems**********

I absolutly agree.

I've just been playing it and im hugely dissapointed.

The feel of the aircraft is very different, and the overall gameplay is 5 times slower than the previous game.

You can take an enemy plane down with the gun if you shoot within a 1 mile radius of it.

The take off and landing is boring and so unrealisitic that it is actually no fun what so ever.

The new and improved explosions etc actually look worse imo. Planes get shot then blow up and disapear completly...

On the video's before the missions where it shows planes taxiing and getting ready to take off, the plane is moving but the wheels are not.

Do not buy this game. Everything is half arsed.

edit: Slightly exaggerated^ but the game sucks compared to the first one.

have to agree on this, the gameplay kind of sucks really.

it just doesnt have the same feel as the original hawx, the dx11 tesselation is the only good improvement. i dunno what it is but playing the game doesnt leave me satisfied. most of the missions i played in the last 2 hours are based around shooting ground targets, and for me i love dog fighting.

An ace combat or deadly skies game is needed, fast. Hate flying games that are confused.Either go sim or arcade, not both cos it never works. Hawk 1 was ok, read ealry reviews and stayed away. Thank god i didn't pay £30

yeah but the dog fightings even worse seeing as you can't lock on to a target within 500m of the target and it takes ages to lock on so when you finally get a lock your in the wrong position to get a hit

also WTF is up with mission 19? you have to hold off practically the whole Russian army and a few fighters by yourself

Fancy this, but don't fancy the DRM... My internet is pretty stable but I'm against such a ridiculously restrictive system that won't let me play if my or ubi's connection drops. *sigh*

Ive never played the first one either. Its an arcade game right? The screenshots of Rafales & Eurofighters look pretty sweet though. Looks good for a mindless bash thru the skies after a heavy and serious FSX-session!

Looks like I wont be getting this game (at least not on PC) because of the always connected drm. I have internet 24/7 but my router disconnects quite frequently so its gonna be a pain in the ... Isn't it decisions like these that make legit players get cracked games?

Anyone figured out how to invert mouse in this game? Unplayable for me! Can't seem to find an option nor anything in a settings.ini etc. Anyway, think I've just been put off from wanting to start it. :(

Thinking of air combat, it's in a different vein, but I really want another MP along the lines of Crimson Skies. Used to have brilliant fun with that :D

Just beaten this, thoughts below:

+Reasonable variety of missions e.g. flying below radars, standard combat, ATG, defending bases etc, sea/land missions
+Runs pretty well and looks "ok"
+A few enhancements over HAWX like cockpit view, takeoff, landing, refuelling etc
+Couple of nice missions/set pieces like fighting around oil rigs, shooting down nuclear missiles etc

-The sense of scale just feels totally wrong, you move WAY to slowly in relation to the ground i.e. 600mph and it feels like you are about to stall. Then when flying by mountain ranges, again it feels totally out of kilter, the terrain just somehow feels artificial and too small, it looks like you'd expect to see from 10000+ feet but you're actually at only like 1500ft altitude. In some sections of the game crashing into the ground was more of a risk than being shot down because of this nonsense
-Cannon seems overpowered i.e. seems to have long range and rips things apart even if you aren't that accurate, in some fights vs aircraft it is actually better than missiles
-Can't choose plane loadout
-Feels like a Modern Warfare rip off in places, with the drone missions (done badly and not half as fun as COD) and playing the role of 3 pilots from different countries
-Storyline feels disjointed, there is some Russian seperatists, and some russians, and then some yanks getting involved, and then I'm defending the Kremlin for some reason, I'm not sure from whom, or for what reason
-Difficulty isn't very well balanced, it's kinda like 80% of the game is really easy, 10% about right and then 10% an absolute ballache (typically defense missions)
-Dogfighting suffers from the same affliction as Darkstar One, in that often you just end up circling round the same enemy for minutes on end until you finally get the drop on them

Overall I would say this is a backward step from the original, which was by no means a great game but at least it executed reasonably well on what it set out to do whereas this feels dirty, almost what you'd expect if someone took a random game engine not designed for a flight game and then shoe-horned flight mechanics into it.
