Just finished uni so its that time of year to start applyinf gor jobs! As there is currently no physio jobs for me im looking for a job to pass the year! Ive applied to the Halifax bank of scotland for a customer consultant position in their call centre where i would be working in the mortgage sector! Got past the first stage and now have a telephone interview tomorrow!

Just wondering if anyone has had a telephone invterview with them and if so what to expect? Bit nervous so please dont scare me lol :p

Telephone interviews are really only about prospective employers listening to your telephone mannor, so make sure your honest, polite and speak calmly and clearly.

Good luck :)

The job will involve lots of telephone calls they're going to be looking for someone who sounds confident but not cocky, assertive but not aggressive, clearly spoken but not condescending, you should be able build a rapport yet remain professional. If you're naturally good on the phone it should be a doddle. :)

Mail me your number and we can practice

I worked for HBOS in telephone banking for 4 years and have referred, and given advice to, a few friends to join the company.

Pretty much as has been said, I'm sure you know yourself what they're broadly looking for; manners, able to listen and resolve complaints and problems etc., there will no doubt be a selling angle as well. There always is.

If you want any advice at all then fire away :).

I work in HBOS, I work in BoS Corporate. I can't really comment on retail (i.e. the position you're going for), but HBOS in general are great to work for. Benefits make up for the salary - expect around 20% on top of your salary in shares and other bonuses and benefits.

As you'll be in retail, it's likely you'll be on a commission-based bonus scheme too.

Just relax, be polite, friendly. If it's going to be a mock "sell me something" or "help me with something", take notes throughout and make sure you wrap up with a summary of what's been discussed. I've done a lot of call quality monitoring in the past, and this is something we look out for. Generally they'll look for friendly manner, appropriate language, no colloquialisms and so on.

Well had my telephone interview this morning and it went ok!

She just asked me why i wanted to work for them and what i thought the job entailed. Also to give an example of working where i had to overcome difficulties and had to meet deadlines etc - i used my dissertation for this as it was a group project! She gave me a senario where i had an angry customer who had no recieved goods they had been billed for - how i would deal with this and the manner i would use, so i basically said i would apologise, research the problem, try and solve it and ensure the customer was happy and i'd use a sympathetic manner (obvioulsy i went into a little more detail!).

So hopefully she heard everything she wanted to hear! Should hear in the next couple of days if im through to the next stage :)

I have quite a few friends who work for HBOS in the docklands.. The thought of working for a big organisation does not appeal to me.

Good luck with the telephone interview.. Make sure you write plenty of questions down.. NEVER attempt ANY interview without proper preparation. :)

It's probably more relevant when you get to the next round but check out Huddy's interview guide which is written by the man above and you should find it very useful if you're applying for graduate jobs which are highly competitive. Wish I'd noticed it when I was applying for them!.

Good luck!

Got through to the next stage :D

Got a phone call an hours after the phone interview inviting me to an assessment day! Sadly im away on holiday so cant make it, but they will phone me back with the next available date (fingers crossed!). Oh what a good day its been :)
