HD 4860: Snapped capacitor, please help.

Aha, thanks for the tips man!

Yes, didn't think about that at all, but indeed I got at least one or two other broken, older cards. Not sure they have similar capacitors, but indeed it sounds like a good idea to practice a bit on them, so I see how the whole thing reacts to the heat of the solder gun.

Cheers :)

I've never got on well with solder guns, I stick to my trusty old iron (or mini iron depending on what im trying to solder). I had a spell last year of modifying acer netbooks for friends and family to solder in extra mini pcie connectors and sim card readers to allow fitting internal 3g cards - that sharpened up my soldering skills no end!

yeh I guess working on tiny laptops bits must help :) Quite scary tho , I guess?

Anyway, yes, I meant 'solder iron' with 'solder gun', I just googled the difference :)

The first one was scary (cos it was my own) but after that it was pretty easy - just needed a big old clamp on magnifying glass, a steady hand and a lot of patience lol

Hi all, sorry I didn't yet post any results, it's just that once I got the capacitors, turns out my flatmate's soldering iron isn't working, and I don't currently know anyone (in London at least) that has got one I could use, so, I will post results once I sort that out some way :)
