hd 6950 2gb or evga gtx 570

Asus's standard 10 mhz pre-overclock;). While technically true that it's pre-overclocked, imho, it's not a fair comparison.

Hehe ;). But as I say, I don't think the Inno3D card was speed binned as such because it wasn't fully stable unless I increased the default voltage by 25mV. My point is that it still has a larger headroom than the HD6970s. I've had two and one only did 916MHz and the ASUS managed 949MHz.

Was this using voltage or standard?

loving my 570 so far :) just seems to excel in performance in everything I throw at it

wasn't sure on how much boost over 4890 - wrt CPU limitation - Q6600 @ 3.3 - but its much faster

some games differences is more dramatic - and not sure if its partly the more powerful card, and partly Nvidia vs AMD - but FSX is an obvious one (we all know that)

but Arma 2 - which I thought I was CPU limited with (as overclocks of my 4890 seemed to make no real difference with it) - is much smoother even with graphic seetings turned up much higher - in fact not just much smoother but looks a lot better too :)

very pleased

^ I don't think it's anything to do with Nvidia vs AMD, it's the jump gained in two generations of gpu performance gains. You would have noticed regardless of vendor, the both of them can bully most games into submision!

maybe :)

another big advantage of the Nvidia for me - is that I can actually have things like News24 in background running and youtube still open (yes I mean open not playing) - and still play games unaffected :)

on my 4890 and I was told similar on newer ATI cards as driver based, if I had any flash/GPU accelerated video open (either playing, paused, or just stopped/finished) in firefox the GPU went into 2D clocks .... even when going back to the game - would stick at 2D clocks very annoying

First reviews for Crysis 2 are out and the 6970 beats the 570 nicely. In fact it is closer to the 580 than the 570 (at high resolutions)

As you can get a 6950 for just under £200 and unlock it the choice is still being clear.
