So I'm interested in investing in a HD media player. I'm more interested in a standalone player (i.e. one without an internal storage drive) than a bundled one and I'm looking to spend around a ceiling of £80.00
I've seen a few players around this range, the one that stands out to me is the WD TV Live HD, but was after a review of the product and all the sites relating to players seem to have conflicting opinions on a range of devices and I'm not entirely convinced they're unbiased.

It's going to be used mainly for mkv files, which will be output on a 42" 720P plasma and i'd prefer a co-axial digital output but will accept TOSLINK if it brings costs down.

I had previously done this with a direct connection from my PC, using a GTX 260 and outputting from an asus xonar d2, so something which will output with equivalent quality would be fantastic.

I also wanted to know if there is a generic codec pack all the players used or if there was a marked quality difference in software/firmware? I'd also quite like the convenience of using my usb hotswap device with the player so i can use it with multiple sata drives (this is a quickport device) will I be able to use one of these or have to buy a dedicated external hard drive?
