HD4850X2 - did anyone buy one?!

Yes someone bought one:

Bang for your buck

This a more "economically viable" option than the 4870 x2's out there. You get a better looking card which stays pretty cool (in the 60-70 celsius region).

If you crave high frame rates in games like COD4 and COD5 (and eventually cod 6 in autumn 2009), then get 2 of these and crossfire them.

4 DVI ports on each card is terrific too.

There were driver issues when this card first came out, but Catalyst 8.12 is out now, and it resolves many issues.

I've seen 2 of these in crossfire, driving a 28 inch Viewsonic LCD, and a 60 inch Pioneer plasma screen with cod4, and it is phenomenal.

The only place this card falls down is use of DDR3. It really could have done with GDDR5 like the 4870.

If it had GDDR5 it would literally be a 4870X2.

Others link to review sires so I don't think it's a problem, if it is mods please remove.

I review for Overclock3d.net. Review should be live on Sunday(ish). It's also the one OCUK are selling atm (Sapphire 2048mb version).

I was thinking about getting one of these after xmas when the price drops some more hopefully january im not sure they will be worth it though.

Good review, but I think I will stay put with a single gpu solution. I've lost count of the people on this very forum moaning about glitches, flashing textures etc etc and generally pretty shoddy driver releases from Ati.

How many countless people do you think there are who don't have any problems you describe ..a rough guess just so we can get some percentages because everyone posts right! even when they have no problems. ;)
Infact i see more posts of people having problems with a single GPU then people posting problems with multi GPU.

True I take your point, but I don't see half as many people moaning about Nvidia drivers. It's common knowledge (I thought:confused:) that dual gpu cards can be somewhat problematic and inconsistant, but Ati still seem convinced that this is the way forward. Perhaps they should concentrate a bit more on their drivers before releasing a new card into the marketplace.

Don't get me wrong I'm no Nvidia fanboy and would gladly purchase another Ati card (as I have in the past) if they could sort out a decent single gpu configuration.

There's no doubting the 4850x2 is an extremely fast card. Hopefully it will get the driver support it deserves which will give Nvidia the kick up the backside they need right now.

Thx for the kind comments btw.

My point was about Multi GPU to your comment about Multi GPU & you take my point.
And now you move the goal post to something i don't care about which was not the point, which if was the point then i would not of replied to such a point because it been done to death & you offer nothing new.

Isn't that pretty inevitable seeing as the vast majority of people will only have a single GPU solution?

Yes so is inevitable that MULTI GPU will not make GPU problems go way, so if you get problems with single GPU then your going to get them with MULTI GPU it's a mute point that people will get problem with MULTI GPU.

I would have liked to put it up against some other cards but they only cards I have atm are the 4850x2 and a few GTX280's. I have a couple of 9600 GSO's and 2 2900xtx but nothing else that is really comparable. Including previous results that were on a different setup is not my style as these would, as you are aware, give false indications.
