I recently swapped my Sapphire HD4850 for a Sapphire HD4870 X2 and I just can't get it to run stable. When I swapped cards I uninstalled the ATI drivers and the CCC and ran Driver Sweeper in safe mode first. I installed the card then 8.11 software. All was well until I rebooted. Now this happens every time: Following a reboot CCC shows the crossfire tab and crossfire is ticked. If I right mouse click on the CCC it shows 3 graphics cards instead of 2 all being ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2's. When I look under display manager it shows 3 not 2 possible displays for some reason. There is only one monitor shown under graphics adapter.
I've installed 8.12 drivers but the problem persists.
I reinstalled Vista x64 reformatting the drive but the same problem occurs. Then I noticed something very obvious. This only happens on a cold boot. I can reboot the PC as often as I want once I've resolved the multiple display problem by disabling them in CCC and the problem does not reoccur. If I shut the PC down and leave it off a while the problem comes back. So that's the obvious bit, but I'm still no wiser why this is happening. MY PSU should be enough. Here's my complete system:
Does that sound enough for the PSU? Any thoughts or experiences of why this is happening?
Cheers,
