HD595

get the hd650s/800s and listen with a high end source and amp and wow wow wow again lol :D

Well if you opt for the HD800 and a high end amp + dac the thing that will amaze you the most is the amount of cash you are going to pay.

I have the HD650 and was considering the HD800 but after looking at the price tag then l had second thoughts :(

Yeah the hd800s are a grand themselves, and you need to spend a futher 2k at least to get the most out of them.

They sound very good though.;)

Aren't these the ones identical to the HD555's except for a chrome strip on the outside and a small bit of plastic removed on the inside ?

That's what I thought, I'm thinking of getting the HD555's in a few months and i was wondering if the 595's are worth the extra £££$$$.

I think there is a Different Driver but i cannot be sure, I chose the h595's but i would also consider the aD700's by audio technica

They use same drivers. 555 has the added bit inside to make them sound not as good as the 595, in thoery at least. I think there must be more to it, I wouldn't have thought it possible to remove something to achieve the same sound as the 595. I think it might also be down to the tuning. 595 has a better headband also.

If you can, listen to a pair of Goldring DR150's, I'd be interested to know how they compare to the 595's.

I quite like 580's myself, they seem to add a nice air to the sound, and 650's were a little bass heavy for me...

Someone who owned both decribed the DR150 as being more aggressive, and having more weight to the sound. The HD595 sounds cleaner and is less congested, but the DR150 has a fuller sound signature.

i have the goldring dr150 and both my brothers have hd595's. I have tried the hd595 in my pc and the sound quality is definitly different and to me a lot better. The sound stage on the hd595's is just so much wider and the sound is so intricate and precise, also they are also more comfortable imo. Saying that i do love my dr150's and are the best £30 ever, i would not pay £60 for a pair though.

Intersting. Thanks Timmothy, always good to hear other peoples comparisons. I don't think for me, the HD595 are worth the £120 that they now cost. I think the DR150's are worth £60, that's my view. If the DR150 are not worth £60, what does that make of the HD555 at £10 more? Generally the HD555 are regarded not quite as good as the DR150.

I was very tempted by the HD595 when they cost £90, but I don't use headphones for long enough periods to justify spending £90. When Senn hiked the price by £30, another guy I kow of was looking the HD595, that put him off getting them.

I have a set of HD595's and they are excellent high quality headphones, I was lucky to pick my set up for £69 off some site, can't remember which one..play I think.
I would still pay the full price for them, they are that good.
I have had mine just over a year now.

I have a set of 555's, and my purchase of a headphone amp (Project headbox mkII) went from the initial wow wow wow to a WOW!!!
See if you can borrow a headphone amp from someone and give it a go, pastes the headphone socket on most amps.
