hi,
I was playing Trials 2 SE yesterday, when the screen went black - it came back on about five seconds later with a 'trials2.exe has stopped responding' and one of my 3 hard drives started clicking - their health status is all reported as OK . Specs are: (this is a backup build)

Maxtor 20GB IDE
Maxtor 40GB IDE
WL-50 30GB SATA (now unplugged)
1.8ghz S754 Sempron
1GB PC3200
SiS 755
6600GT
Hiper 350w

I had to unplug the 30gb because it caused the main 20gb to spin down then up over and over again. any advice? thanks ;)

Clicking is not a good sign and usually indicates a drive is on its way out. I'd take off any data you don't want to lose and think about replacing it.

Run the manufacturer's diagnostics for the hard drives, they'll give you a black and white answer as to if the drive is defective or not.

Seatools for Maxtor drives, not sure about that WL-50 drive...

SMART usually doesn't trip until it's too late :(

I have a 250GB Hitachi Deskstar on my desk here with a comment written on it 'Click of Death!' Took it out of No.2 PC a few days ago, and it's fate follows it's 3 other companions - this was the last one and is about 4 years old. The first couple that died this way caused me woe as I left it too late and they went suddenly (after being clicky for weeks) losing me data, nothing vital but annoying. The point is - clicking drives are dying, they may not show any problem on SMART, but may suddenly stop working. Replace them.
