Ok,

The Mrs has got a new Pioneer sound system that has got HDMI Control implemented in it.

Basically, I am trying to source a HDMI cable that I can use to connect it up to the TV so she can get away with using just one of the remotes. So doing a bit of reading, it looks like not all HDMI cables have the cable required for CEC (or so the Wikipedia says). Is this the case?

Has anyone on here played with HDMI Control? Can you use any spec of HDMI cable? or does it have to be 1.3 or 1.4 or what??

Cheers

If it's part of the HDMI spec, then any cable will do.

There won't be a special "wire" inside a special HDMI cable that would enable this, it'd simply use the available bandwith of an HDMI cable to send signals back and forth.

Cheapest HDMI cable you can get should be fine.

Beware CEC

All the stupid manufacturers have named their implementation of CEC. In my experience, it is entirely hit and miss whether it actually functions, even though it is meant to be a universal standard.

You are probably better using a programmable remote control to sort it all out.

It don't know if I'm just lucky, but I can get by pretty much for most functions on my Panasonic TV remote for controlling my Samsung DVD HT and even my PS3 Slim in the XMB/Blu Ray and some features of PlayTV (also on the PS3). My telly also happily turns on the surround for DVDs and for digital in (when I want the surround on) and the PS3.

yeah my onkyo av amp, ps3 and panasonic tv all play together with CEC, but the onkyo (or the tv, i cant work out which) get's confused and the tv seems to randomly switch to a hdmi input that has nothing plugged in to it when you change source on the amp lol
