I was wondering what difference there is between £10 or £100 HDMI and optical cables, seeing as they both use a digital signal right?

I wont be needing anything over 2m in length.

Thanks

There would be no difference at all, as you said, it's digital.

People who think more expensive optical cables sound better, or that expensive HDMI cables make colours look richer, are retarded.

I have always made sure to buy good quality interconnects and cables for my AV stuff from the beginning following the thought that the signal path is only as good as its weakest link.

Can see however exactly where people come from when they say that with a digital signal the chance for it to be degraded and affected by noise and other forms of interference in the same way that an analog signal would be is pretty much removed from the equation.

I think it also depends on the level of the equipment you are using, personally having just spent the best part of around £3500 on a new TV, DVD player and an AVR spending the extra little bit on a couple of decent cables was not really a tough choice (and seeing as the DVD player wasn't even supplied with an HDMI cable anyway ;)).

For the money a lot of people would probably recommend the QED Quenex HDMI-P (about £50 for 2m).

- Precision-formulated polyethylene dielectric material, maintains stronger signals that yield superior sonic and video accuracy
- Silver-plated conductors, deliver best high-frequency response for optimal resolution

Where's the gif of the massive rolleyes vomiting out thousands of smaller ones when you need it?
