Head of E.A Origin says "Steam sales are bad" & wants Origin to be the hub for gamers

Profit profit profit that is ALL EA is after, this comes 100% before customers, product & service.

Steam sales are great there games i would never ever buy, but in a sale i am willing to gamble on something different. Healthy for me, healthy for the devs that wrote it and little extra cash for all involved getting to me.

EA can take there attitude and swivel, the games they produce now generally **** anyway, high production values but shallow and lack any depth (also dumbed down and i hate this DLC **** as well)

The guy is a tool and he's only whinning cos at the end of the day, the truth hurts. Steam is far better than Origin and it always will be. He's just jealous that hes not the daddy of Valve, unfortunately he has an ugly baby called Origin and he has to defend it no matter what even though he'd rather have the slicker, better Steam baby.

Steam is a good platform, it sells games from many different developers/publishers, it has many sales where games are really cheap, it sells indie games and its pretty much the Playstation Network, Xbox Live equivalent for PC.

Origin is none of the above.

And how long has Origin been a Beta, no wait, I mean Pre Release, no sorry, a Beta, oh hang on, its a Pre Release again, huh now its back to an Alpha, oh no, now its Beta again...

Face EA, Origin is carp.

IMO the standard rrp for the majority of pc games does not represent good value for money (quality of game/ length of game or replayability).

Similar to what others have said: I wouldn't buy half the games I do if it wasnt for the deep discounts.

so basically EA want monopoly of digi sales so they can charge 100%+ for their games.

EA are sadly mistaken if gamers are going to suddenly drop support for steam, valve and Gabe. Its taken years for steam to evolve into what we have today and its going nowhere!

Unlike Origin, Steam actually provides a decent alternative to buying from retailers. Origin costs the same if not more and the whole service is a hassle compared.

Steam has been around for coming up to a decade, they are doing something right. That something right is right by me, EA won't be getting a penny from me.

BF3 sacrifice or not.

Same.

Although I find it strange declaring your hate of origin whilst having a sig with your origin tag in :p

i was at the point where i wasn't going to buy another EA game unless it had a meta-rating of 90+. i'm not buying anything EA any more.

**** that ****ty company, **** it in the ***

LOL
Great move EA. Certainly the way to go considering the whole financial crysis thing, the unemployment etc
I will IMMEDIATELLY uninstall steam (so that i am not tempted by their devilish sales- surelly the work of a trully sick mind) and buy only full priced games (from you of course) even if they are getting a bit old now (lets not forget that whiskey and wine are also getting more expensive as they age) in addition to every day1 DLC you developed!
............

Origin's store is great !!!

Due to their awesome webstore, myself and many others have enjoyed adding games to the basket only to find that that when the page adds up the cost it sometimes charges you - £0.00 :p

free games are great !!!

It's strange though, I really don't mind Gabe taking my cash whereas I kind of loathe EA who make me feel dirty for playing their games :)

Southpark hit EA spot on. Have to give them credit though at least they are honest.. not by what they say but by the actions and statements. Give you a real insight into how money mad they really are.

not really, steam is always super expensive compared to other online retailers. price check maxpayne 3 on steam and ocuk for instance

That's just not true, Max Payne 3 was £29.99 on Steam and £34.99 in Game, Gamestation and Tesco when I popped out on release day to buy it. So I got it on Steam. Buying online would have meant a few days wait I didn't want to wait.

If you mean buying it online in advance or being prepared to wait for it to arrive 5 days later because you waited for reviews etc then sure you can get it £5 cheaper.

Also steam sales only last for a couple of days and then the product is back to full price, it's not like the reductions are permanent, miss the deal and you are screwed.

I personally do not buy anything except via digital distribution, don't want boxes, cases, discs etc ever.

Discounting games cheapens intellectual property?

What the hell is this guy on? He will never do a sale? He's basically shot himself in the foot because if anyone wants to install that DRM ridden pile of rubbish called Origin there has to be at least some benefits to it.

Having a sale is the only way some people will buy games. If they're buying games they're not pirating games. Selling 1000 units at £4 beats selling 10 units at £40 yet they still don't see it. They don't understand how people actually purchase items any more.

I'm sure there are thousands of people who wait for a Steam sale and I'm sure there are just as manay who pre-order games. It's not a problem if you can't wait you pay a premium.

The guy is an utter idiot. I really wanted to try BF3 but I can't justify paying that high amount of money, installing that evil software and then having an always on internet connection (try explaining always on to my ISP).

Cheapens intellectual property...

Made me laugh, How bout that Star Wars MMO eh, battlefield premium, dragon age 2, ME3.

He's on crack if he thinks we are just gonna drop steam so we can play cross platform Scrabble.

The only reason I would ever buy a game from origin is because it wasn't on steam. And it'd have to be one really good game. So far, it doesn't differentiate itself. All his talk about other methods. Tell me what those are? Words are wind.
