headphone amp - project headbox mk2?

currently I have..

xfi xtreme music / xonar dx (i can test both to see which i prefer)
HD 595

thinking of getting a headphone amp, for playing games and music.

how do these compare?

or would you say, sell the current cards and get a Xonar STX?

I have the project headbox mk2, and also the HD595's.
Soundcard is an Auzentech prelude.
I am more than happy with mine.

I had one of those too! It made a noticeable difference to my setup (X-Fi Fatality, Grado's) and I was more than happy with it. I'm quite a fan of Headphone amps in general, although I'm told the Graham Slee ones are better.

Definatly not.
Graham Slee are better but at least double the price.
I would go for it.

for about the same price i got a Little dot 1+ the sound is really great i wouldnt go back now

mmm this is a price range im looking into for an amp to treat my wonderfull ultrasones ,amp only practical devices xm4 maybe but with the dac im thinking the vivid audio v1 so i can either plug it into my cowon or the usb port of my laptop it got a pretty good revew from skylab on headfi infact with the senn hd600s he thought it in the top 3 out of 37 ish

desktop amp wise somebody here mentioned the Beresford TC-7510 dac/amp at a shade over £100

As above - get a TC-7510.

Much preffered it to my Headbox II/Xonar DX combo running on 555's, 595's and the 650's i have now.

Just use the Beresford and a digital output (i use the one direct from my mobo) and you'll be set.
