Headphones recommendation for use with Xonar Essence STX

If you are after closed back cans, DT770 pro's seem to be common in work and they are very well made and stand up to a heck of a lot of abuse. I've not listened to any properly yet though (just a few test tones via a digibeta machine), i've only heard AKG (K60, K240 & K601) & sennheiser (HD480) cans myself.

I have DT770 pro 250 ohm headphones on my essence st and don't think the bass is overpowering at all. I'd highly recommend them, you can always use the equaliser in the software if the bass is too much for your taste.

im also looking at the same sound card and the same budget for a headset.

i noticed the Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO comes in 2 flavours

80ohms and 250ohms, can you please explain advantages and disadvantages of the two?

thanks.

If you can find some Grado SR80s for cheap then i strongly advise you buy a pair, but they are around £100-£120 i think still.

The DT770 Pro is a good shout, slightly over budget again but definitely worth every penny.

Otherwise, stick with what you've got until you can splash out on something above £100.

Ended up buying a Xonar DG in the end.

I also ordered some Sony V6 headphones but the Rainforest/City Link screwed delivery up. I then cancelled the order. I don't mind as the DG has actually brought my Panasonic RP-HTF600E to life. I'm using the DG set to 'pro gaming mode'.

I just couldn't bring myself to pay up to £150 on headphones that I might not have liked.

Cheers for the help anyway. :)
