I'm looking to buy a set of headphones but am not sure which option will be the best for me, a pair of headphones with a seperate desk microphone or clip on or a headset.

I was originally looking at either the Creative fatal1ty headset or the Plantronics gamecom 367 or 377. But after looking through some forums posts it seems that a cheap set of headphones instead will have much better sound quality so I was looking at goldring DR50 or Sennheiser hd201.

Would the sound really be much better in the headphones? I will be using them mainly for gaming and listening to some music. I'm buying a Xonar D1 to use the Dolby headphone feature so any experience using this with any of the headphones I've mentioned?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

The mike on my Fatal1ty headset died after about 10 months
now have Roccat Kave 5.1 , they seem to have gone up in price @ OcUk since i bought mine but there a perfect solution for gaming and movies

I was just looking for a set of stereo headphones so the Roccats are overkill really, and quite pricey.

Was about to go ahead and order some DR50's but reallised they are open. How much noise can be heard by other people with open headphones? Could somone in the next room hear anything if they were turned up pretty loud?

I had some DR150's. They can be heard in the same room but not another room.

Shame as that is why I had to sell them as the pc is in the living room.:(

Thanks for the advice guys. I just picked up a pair of HD201's from a certain supermarket chain as they seemed very cheap, especially with my brothers staff discount.

Would have preffered some DR50's but after I get my Xonar D1 I'll probably try to get hold of some DR150's after christmas as well.
