***HEADS UP: MSI GTX 580 OC @ £399 Until Midday Monday!!***

- What connectors are required for the MSI GTX 580 OC?
- Are there adaptors supplied with the card to fit older PSU's?

Can anyone set my mind to rest?
The card needs a 8 pin and a 6 pin PCI express plugged into it to work

And picture of the cables that are meant to come with the MSI 580 cards (But sometimes the included cables are different to what you see in online reviews)

So.. if these two cables are provided my install is a-ok?
No....You need an 8 pin PCI-E

Which i don't know how your going to get from your PSU if your PSU has no 6 pin PCI-E cables at all to start with...
I have a Corsair TX 650W power supply which seems to only have 4-pin connectors attached.
Check again to see if any your PSU cables end with a 6 pin plug

As i would have thought a Corsair TX 650W PSU would have had them..

Sorry for the ill-informed questioning. This was something of an impulse purchase.

If I do not have the required 8 pin PCI-E, then I imagine I need a new power supply. Would that be correct?

strange i have also a tx 650w psu and it had the required plugs to run my 6970 which also requires a 6 +8

i'd imagine you will have the plugs just they'll be tucked away somewhere :)

Heh. Would I be correct in saying a 4870x2 uses an 8 pin and 6 pin connection?

*embarrassed*

I inspected all the -unused- cables and couldnt find the right ones...

That what i thought..

As it shows it has 8 & 6 pin PCI-e plugs in this review http://www.extreme.outervision.com/articles/psu/corsair/tx650/corsair_tx_650_5.jsp

Long day at work... *whistles innocently*

Thank you very much to everyone who offered their input. Gold stars all round.

I received my card today and it wasn't the one advertised in this thread and the one on the OCUK web site.

There is no default overclock to the speeds highlighted

Anyone else get the same?

:s i bought this card a month early of my build so i cannot test, i said in the other thread when you google u can find this issue of its not being pre overclocked, does your box say OC on it? its at the top its a small logo

perhaos you got the regular msi by mistake?

The box is marked as an 'OC' edition, but afterburner says that all the clocks are default :(

OCUK website says

- Core Clock: 823MHz (Fermi GF110)
- Memory Clock: 4276MHz (Effective)
- Shader Clock: 1645MHz

According to MSI's afterburner program (I can supply screen shots of this if needed) the product supplied is a standard GTX 580 with the following specifications

- Core Clock: 772MHz (Fermi GF110)
- Memory Clock: 4008 (Effective)
- Shader Clock: 1544MHz

I sent a webnote to OCUK, but it was just before the close of business so I very much doubt that anyone will have seen it

got mine and waiting on water blocks. cant fit it in my case either because of the way i did the tubing for my zotac one. i was hoping it came pre oced

as for the corsair TX650 i had this one before i upgraded to ax 850 and it doest have cables for a 2nd gfx. i rand 280 gtx in sli fine tho had to get a molex adapter for the 2nd card
Code:

sigh no point me even taking it to my uncles pc as i know its default clocks, the cards wont work at default volts at 823 btw, i have read the msi forums and all msi do is give out the pre oc bios which you have to flash and its using default volts and is not stable.

you have to volt it yourself to get the bios stable......at least thats what others have said.

hmm what to do? ocuk still list them as OC and they said the offer wasa price **** up by msi, i think msi knew hence the low price so someones been lied too somewhere.

shocking if true

i would wait to see what ocuk offer first as normally when cockups like these happen they dish out free games but black ops is sold out and probably more than they would like to offer, but in saying that if i wanted to be an ass and get my money back i would have to have my postage refunded £12 +restock fee and return shipping £12 which is about £30 odd for MSI's mistake.if the cards stable at stock and works ok then a game could make people like me go away and relax knowing i came off better from the mistake.for you who wanted a pre OC for SLI this might not be true.

and the card is up in price also so i dont know whats going to happen, only got 7 days too so i hope they can clear this up by wednesday.

ps im looking at a psu for this card and the ax850 says it has 4x 6+2 pin, thats the same as an 8pin right? it works fine without adapters?

I was very tempted by this offer, but was able to resist in the end. The hook that caught my attention mainly was the factory overclock for the same price as standard.

Hope you all get this sorted as it looks like the price hasn't been ballsed up at all.
