Hi Chaps,

Recently picked up an MG ZS and I'm now looking to change the HU.

Ideally I would like to be able to connect my iphone to it either by bluetooth or cable and to also have the option of connecting a hard drive by usb.

I've been advised to look at both Pioneer and Alpine HUs in my price range.

Preferably I would like to spend no more than £200 or less if possible.

After a quick look I've found two that I like the look of and seem to be able to do what I want. Although, I have no idea what I should look for or avoid regarding HUs and so would appreciate any input.

Opinions?

I prefer the look of the pioneer, although it comes in slightly over budget it seems to also include one of the cables.

Any others I should consider?

Are there any particular hard drives that are more suited to this than others? I assume most portable hard drives would be ok?

ive currently got the 102Ri Alpine unit. has ipod connection at the back and usb port on the front (great for usb pens)

normally dont even use the cd player part just plug my pen drive in and play the music off there.

the only thing i would say i dont like about it is the fact the display can only show a limited number of characters, so when browsing folders with large titles it can be hard.

cant fault it for sound quality and would recommend Alpine to anyone.

Got the Alpine iDA-X301 myself, rear USB, iPod and Aux ports. Perfect for my needs, but doesn't have a CD slot which may put people off...

Brilliant quality, the low character count isn't too offputting, as the search feature more than makes up for it :)

I bought the Pioneer a month ago ago mate, really nice little unit does everything very well and looks smart too.

Had an Alpine for the last 8 years (well 3 in that time), last one cost about £350 (sorry cant remember the model no, can check if you want me to). The Alpine sound is immense, even with stock speakers but with a set of upgraded Infinities absolutely fantastic. Have a pioneer costing a similar amount in the other car, the sound is equally as good but I don't find it as user friendly.

Alpine for the win every time!!
