Heated Front Windscreens

Purely out of curiosity, is someone able to offer a definite explanation as to why it only seems to be Ford that offer this feature? I keep reading about Ford owning the patent to their Quickclear technology but this seems to be uncertain.

For reference, I'm talking about screens with the actual heating elements embedded within the glass, not heated wipers or pre-heating blower fans and whatnot.

I love it on the wife's Mondeo, particularly with these recent icy mornings They come on automatically below 4-degrees, so I don't even have to press a button

What, of their own accord, or when you press the windscreen demist button on the climate control?

If mine comes on when the temp is below 4c, the button certainly doesn't light up

Yeah mine does too, mines a MY05 - what's yours?

Mines an 04. The screens definitely work, I just have to press the buttons myself
