The heating in my house failed today.
:( It is rather cold.

The boiler appears to be working, OFCH, as when it is swictehd on and off all the usual noises are being made, but the radiators are not warning.
We have loads of oil, and I can't find any evidence of a frozen pipe from the tank to the boiler or around the boiler.

Most perplexing and quite freezing :(

Any helpful suggestions?

Could be 100 things -- but my best guess is that your pump has gone. Is the boiler itself getting hot/warm anywhere when you press your hand to the outside of it? What about the pipes directly next to the boiler (careful don't burn yourself finding out!)

Unsure when my wife realsied no heat was coming to the radiators she turned the thing off, didn't want overheating or things going on fire. I had not thought of pump, thats a good shout, thanks.

An engineer is due to call later today, as soon as he can make it to me.

Just checked the system properly, seems the pump is working, and the system wasn't firing, pressed the reset started to fire and a shedload of black smoke started flowing from all over the show, quickly swicthed it off, figure something was tripped in it when it came on this early am, and might be best to await the engineer to get it checked up.

You'd be better calling someone that fixes heating systems rather than wasting time in here, after all it's you who will be spending the next day/days without heating.

i ran out of oil today as well I feel your pain

The boiler was making funny noises and i said it can't be the oil put 2000l in last Jan but yup it's all gone. (Another 650€ for 1KL coming tomorrow hopefully) just pray with me that the snow stays away until then or i'll be booking into a hotel :(

I am an engineer!

If you boiler is giving out black smoke you've got loads of oil and too little air.

Does it get serviced yearly?

Dont bother putting the heating on again....

Just another jumper will do.... I haven't had my heating on for 2 years now

A FREEZE is coming!

weee heating restored
thank goodness, chap just left
jet was clogged, but main issue was frozen pipe between tank and boiler, he reckons there must have been some water introduced at some point that froze within the pipe, as althought it has been very cold, it shouldn't have been cold enough for the oil to freeze directly, everything is flowing again, so I am happy, and slowly thawing myself.
