Hi All

Need some help, just had a huge electric bill.... turns out the timer for the hot water in our flat (that I didnt even know existed) was set to constant.

This is the timer, it was hidden in the fuse box

I cant find a manual anywhere, any one got any ideas how to programme it

Thanks

Aaron

That will come later, need to get it sorted first, its costing me 2 quid a day lol.. and Im not even using hot water at the moment lol, having cold showers

To be honest it wont make much difference. In my house where we run a shower twice each day your better off having it on constant. All it does is top the heat up for a few minutes each day and then cut out at a set temperature. Or if you put it on timer it just has to run for 30 minutes to heat a cool tank up.

It likely wont save you anything. It doesnt mean its on constantly because its set to constant.

I depends on what type of system he has and how much hot water he uses. It is better to have it on constant if you have a good storage tank with exelent insulation as it wont take much to keep it hot rather than heating up loads of cold water twice a day. I also have m central heating on constant with the room stat bringing it on when it dorps below about 16degreesC

Yeah fair point, it does depend on the tank. You mean your tank stat turns it back on rather than your room stat?

Hi All

Im back, after hours of rooting about I found the manual and have set the times. I think the issue is that the tank has 2 heaters in it, a normal one and a sort of top up one that you stick on if you want extra hot water. The timer was set to switch both on constat. I think having the normal one on constant would be ok, but this extra one has cranked the bill through the roof. 5000kwh in 3 months!

Thanks for all your input guys. Just hope this sorts it, got to find an extra £400 to pay it out now.

Glad you got it sorted. I'm not 100% but surely even the top up one will have an electric cut out for temperature. But still that should hopefully bring your bill down some.
