Greetings, everyone.

My name is Dan, I'm 25 and studying a Ba(hons) in Audio Production at Lincoln University.

I'm a musician, sound designer, foley artist... blah blah. Basically an all round audio guy.

I've had the same PC for the last 5 years, I think. It was a pretty decent machine back then, but its starting to show its age, so I'm looking to upgrade. It was a gaming PC when I bought it, and its going to stay that way, my work is done on a mac.

The thing is, if I want to make a massive worthwhile set of upgrades, I'll be needing a new motherboard, processor and graphics card and maybe a bit more ram. But then I'm not sure about the power supply and other gubbins. I've only got a very basic knowledge of the inside of my tower.

Hopefully some of you guys will be able to help.

Presumably there is another place I should start listing my spec, etc? Or am I good to ask for help on this thread?

I'm basically wanting to know if its worth upgrading everything, or just simply building a new PC from scratch with someone like Overclockers, for example.

Don't have a budget, currently, so this is going to be an ongoing thing, but I'll be looking to spend £1000 to £1200.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Thanks simulatorman, I'll head over to Hardware!

And Hi, dbov! What sort of stuff do you work with? One of my current projects for Uni is to mute a scene from a movie and redo every single sound. I have a tendency to dive in the deep end, so I'm doing the Helms Deep battle scene from LOTR's. I'll be replacing all the dialogue, the weather, the Orcs, the fighting... can't wait to get stuck in, to be honest.

I'm also doing a live radio show in April on "a cappella", so we've got a barbershop chorus (not a quartet, there are 40 of them.. :S), a beatboxer and a Tuvan throat singer, so that should be pretty sick too.
