Help a clueless idiot recover his files

Right, basicly my old system became really unstable, which i thought was down to a damaged northbridge, so I've got my old harddrive in a new system and i'm trying to get my documents off it.

However, when I go into the old drive to get to the "my documents" section it says "access denied". I'm guessing this is some kind of security feature to stop exactly what i'm trying to do. Is there any way round it?

I have backups on CD of the important stuff, but things like music I'd prefer not to have to rip my CD collection again!

What OS?

Have you given yourself admin persmission?

Was the drive corrupt at all? Data wiped?

Yes, at least I think so. I was an admin on the old system and I'm the only user on the new.

I dont think so, I checked it for errors last night and it didnt seem to come up with anything. It was late and I ran out of ideas.

Well after a good nights sleep and a bit of calming down, I've done what I should have done last night and used the wonderful search function and found what may well be the answer to my problems here:
