I downloaded ATI Tool to o/c my X1800XT and used the option for it to find the maximum core clock itself.

It plodded along for a while so I went off and did something else. When I came back the screen was an off-white colour with beige bands down either side with no other display.

I re-booted but the screen just goes a slightly lighter shade of black with no display :(

Is there anything I can do to reset it or is the card knackered?

Stan :)

Rebooting will set the memory/core clock back to default, and there's nothing you can really do to "reset" a card other than flash the BIOS, but ATi Tool wont have touched that.

Have you tried taking the card out and resating it? Might sound silly but it fixed it for me when i did what you did with ATi Tool.

I was in the middle of doing that when you posted.

Unfortunately, it has had no effect. I have tried the card in both slots to no avail :(

I really can't afford to be buying a new high-end gfx card just now.

Stan :)

Im guessing its not broken - rather the frequences maybe too high or something.

P.S Dont ever leave ATI Tool running when your not there, it tests your card fully and will make the ard reach its highest temps, best to watch the little graphic while your sat at your pc doing something.

Hmm not sure then, my card once artifacted after overclocking and still artifiacted after restarting soo much so it crashed, so I just switched off my pc and went to sleep, woke up it was fine, im guessing my temps were too high.

RMA time.

The card just stopped working, and those lines and stuff appeared on the screen ;)

Not much help with fixing your card but I remember a post a while back where the exact same thing happened or nearly happened to someone on here, They posted a warning about leaving ati tool running as it just keeps going up and up till it fries your card. hopefully theyll read this and may have a suggestion, personally id just return it.

same thing happend to my Geforce 6200 i couldnt get it workin so i chucked it but i dont suppose u want to do that with an X1800 try RMA ing it, its your only option

RMAing isn't an option as I bought it from here - it would look slightly fishy if I RMAd an X1800XT after posting a thread about breaking one.
I also have a conscience and wouldn't be comfortable doing something like that to a supplier with whom I've had a good relationship over the last couple of years - damn conscience :o

I have an X1600 PRO in my entertainment/multimedia machine. I think I'll use that in the gaming machine and get a cheapo card for the other until I can afford a better one (probably get an X1900XT-X).

That's entirely up to you... since the thread title explicitly states ATI Tool broke your card - there is no solution. I used ATI Tool once on my 7800GT and ran it only for 3-4 minutes to check for artifacting and it ended up corrupting the video display everytime I played a game.

I guarantee there's no other way of fixing your borked card other than completing an RMA with OcUK or yes... buy a new card. :)
