wanting to buy 2 x 1GB sticks to replace my 4 x GeIL Value 512MB sticks since realising that my systems actually slower with 2GB than it was with 1GB. There's a lot of info about different settings and I was wondering whether to stick with GeIL value (£129) or go with the cheaper OcUK memory at £105. The OcUK memory appears to be higher spec quoting 2.5-7-3-3 as opposed to 3.0-8-4-4 but I'm unsure whether this would make a difference on my A64 (S939) rig.

ive heard that CAS < 3 is not so important on A64 but generally the tighter the full range of timings the better

Im sure ill be corrected :P

I know I want to run at 1T which is why I want to move away from 4 x 512MB. The advice I was looking for is whether the OcUK memory is ok or whether to pay a bit extra for the GeIL despite appearing to be lower spec.

There was a thread here recently (cant see it atm) showing people getting some decent Geil overclocks, apparently the Geil is on quite loose timings and people were having no troubles running it much faster. I dont remember reading anything about the OcUK generic stuff.

The SPD timings (the 3-4-4-8) are what the manufacturer set the RAM to run at. It will always run at those settings by default, you will have to force it.

Read the OCUK memory faq, for A64 timings are less important. Running at 1T CMD is the biggest performance increaser.

Not quite right... Timings are far more important on A64 systems. I've seen charts in various places showing that timings of 2-2-2-5@200MHz performs pretty much the same as 3-4-4-8@280MHz.
