Hi everyone,

Have been researching a media computer build for months now and having read everything on the net about media motherboards, I cannot decide on the right one. My specs are as follows:

Modular PSU: Corsair 450 HX
HDD: 1TB Eco Green
Operating System: Windows 7 32-bit, using MCE as the front end
Case: Antec Fusion Remote Max (can take ATX board)
Optical Drive: LG Blu-Ray
RAM: 2x2GB of RAM (brand and speed undecided)
TV Tuner card: Black Gold BGT3595 (apparently coming out next month) - I shall be plugging in my aerial for freeview and two lnbs for freesat.

I don't really mind which CPU brand I choose - whichever one fits the board!

I have just read so much about the two main types: nvidia and ati chipsets and cannot decide which one to go for. Please could someone help me decide?

Big thanks

ok..first question .. will you be doing any gaming ? and if so what type ? wil you be lookign to overclock
etc

if you look at my sig it shows what ive got ...i just play soem old games so dont need anything fancy

the asus i have is imo very good ... ive got this from coming from an old athlon 3700+ system

well impressed tbh .. theres obviously better but i liek what ive bought

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply old chap.

No gaming and no overclocking. I shall be using it just to record lots of freeview and freesat (including BBC HD), websurfing and watching blu-ray.

I am going to wire cat6 ethernet (via a gigabyte router) to my kitchen (which shall have a media extender) and my bedroom (which has a regular computer connected to a computer), so my only real demands are a htpc that can record multiple channels and stream them to two other places at the same time.

well the asus in my sig does a fine job for me .. its micro atx .. dont know if thats a issue for you .. cant comment on the dark side lol used amd since i first had a p2 233 :)

everything runs with me smooth as silk .... only had it 3-4 weeks ...but i'm happy

Don't suppose you could recommend either a nvidia 9300 or 785g board could you?

One thing I have heard is with the ati chipsets, there seems to be a problem with receiving BBC HD via freesat. Had you come across this?

tbh i dont think you can go wrong either way .. its just from what ive read the nvidia route is abit more expensive . performance is about the same. i'm waiting on windows 7 myself .. can use this remote i got then with the antec case :)
