thanks everyone for welcoming me to the forum..

i have a problem that i ve not yet had time to look into as been working on everyone elses cars bar mine..

the problem is that when i drive for around 4-5 miles i can smell burning brakes!..
i ve pulled into my local supermarket the other day with smoking brakes!..
i cant really diagnose it without some dissasembly so was wondering if anyone has any initial thoughts as to what could cause this..

few factors to consider..
i ve had new alloys fitted 2 weeks ago and realised the buggers have bolted the wheel nuts in so tight it took some going to get the nuts cracked..
my brake pads still have about half the meat left on them but some obvious heat stress is showing, as with the disc..
all this is happening on the front off-side..

i cant see or hear anything touching down there, nor is there any resistance when i drive altho that would be difficult to tell as the right foot usually sinks the pedal to the floor. (not good considering the problem at hand..)

my initial thoughts where that the wheel was bolted on too tight but now that i ve loosened it a bit the problem is still persistent...

please help!.. i want to be able to drive more than 4-5 miles at a time...

It'll be a binding brake. If you're not savvy with brakes, just take them to a local indepedent garage that'll free them for ~£20.

i think i may have to follow up this option as i have no time to work on the car, and want to have it working by saturday!...

Yup - seized caliper. Spray some wd40 to free it up*

* That's a joke btw - take it to a garage if you're not savvy with brakes.

EDIT:-

wheel was bolted on too tight but now that i ve loosened it a bit

Did you really do that? :-O

all sorted now ta everyone..
lots of crap built up behind the brake cylinder, had it pulled out and cleaned up, seems to be working fine now or least i havent had any excessive heat build up today....:)
happy, happy, happy...
maybe the car will be ready now for saturdays car meet..
