Hi all,
I need some help in choosing a camera,
whats best casset, disc or hard drive
whats the hd model like.
I have around 600 quid to spend,maybe 700.
Any info would be most helpfull.
Something not to big.

After a lot of reading I chose a Sony HC39E that with discounts from the popular high street elctrical people, came to £280 and I have to say it's bloomin brilliant.

It has a megapixel CCD which means it shoots 720x576 properly and has native widescreen which means it doesn't shoot in normal and stretch the picture leading to artifacts.

The camera is small, light and the battery lasts at least as long as the tape which is important. It can shoot in very low light thanks to the infra red facility and the widescreen touchscreen LCD is excellent, in fact I never use the normal viewfinder.

I chose a camera with Mini-DV tapes as the media for two reasons.
1) It is still the best consumer level quality you can get, both HD and DVD do not record in the same quality.
2) Tapes only cost a couple of quid each which means if you're paranoid like me, you can archive the tape even after you burn to DVD so you've still got the original.

That's my 2p, why pay more than £300 when there seems to be no need.

If you've got any questions let me know. It actually appear that the HC39E has been superceded so you'd have to find it's newer equivalent.
