I have decided to put together my own system and just want a bit of advice on which motherboard to choose! I will be going for this processor http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-161-IN&tool=3 and would just to know what board you all would use. I have a budget of approx £150 for the board. So any advice on which board would be best for me would be most appreciated :D

Cheers

I would be inclined to go for one of the P35 boards, do you want to use DDR2 or DDR3 or one that supports both, what features you want?

The Abit IP35 Pro, Asus P5K Premium and Gigabyte P35 DQ6 are all good DDR2 supporting boards...:)

I would ideally like a crossfire enabled board as I have convinced the wife that I NEED 2 2900's  I would be guided by my betters on the subject of RAM as I will be intending this to be a gaming rig so whichever will suit my purpose better.

Thanks for the help

In that case you may want to wait until mid-October for the X38 chipset boards as they will have dual x16 PCI-E gfx support as opposed to x16 + x4 on most P35s (Asus have a couple with a special chip that allows dual x8 but above your budget). Full house X38s will probably be outside your budget too but there are suppose to be a couple of stripped down, cheaper boards.

official launch has ben put back by Intel to October 10th/11th but there will be some boards in retail before that.

If I was to only get one graphics card at the moment I could increase my budget for the motherboard by about £200. So I would then have approx £350 for motherboard! (more than enough I hope) So which board for the best gaming rig??? I am not to bothered about crossfire and would consider SLI if thats what people advise.

Cheers for the help

Actually thinking about it I would prefer SLI as I will be running just 1 card so will probably have to go 8800 for the time being until convince the wife I need a second one!

Noooooooooooooo!

Don't get that board with a Q6600.

Get the EVGA version instead.

Abit IP35-Pro or Gigabyte P35-DS4 + a single 8800GTX will give you everything you're after, and under budget too.
