HELP: Just built my pc! Wont stay on!

Hey guys just built my PC and it wont stay on for longer than 15 mins.

Power just drops randomly...

I had this problem with my last PC, and I kept the PSU, CD rom and HDD

Must be the PSU mate. Out of all the components you have carried over the PSU is the likely culprit. You have a Corsair VX series (which I use also) so can you test your PSU in a mates PC? Or test another PSU on your PC? It's the one component you have carried over that could cause this. Perhaps did you upgrade your GPU to the point that the VX550w can't handle your new Graphics card? This would cause your problem also.

could it be that the cpu is too warm and wont allow the pc to start up?

Hence why I asked about the CPU fan. If the cooler is fitted properly and the CPU is running then it shouldn't be an issue. Enter the BIOS at Boot and check your CPU Temps. A badly fitted cooler will indeed cause the CPU to throttle and then eventually shut down. Why not use Core Temp to check if this is the issue?

first off where are you?

perhaps someone can come round and have a look we are a good bunch you know :)

the smell of burning has me worried...have you tried taking everything out of the case and only booting with one stick of ram, cpu, mobo connected (i take it you have on board gpu)?

if you had this same problem on the previous rig with the same psu, and you;ve installed anew mobo and cpu with heatsink and fan and the fan aint working on this one then i think a faulty psu is a strong possiblity. i dont know exactly how a psu works, voltages on the rails etc, but i winder is it possible that it isnt supply sufficient power to the motherboard?? have u a independant pc store near you that could test your pc, they'd probably charge a minimal fee for this

ahh ignore, i see sayso has offered to help

i had sort of the same i took everythink out of the case but the memory and i done the same os i took the board out and the back plate out to check them and there was a spacer loose when i tighent it the computer was fine hope it helps
