you forgot the SSD on the i7 build, I think that the AMD would make a strong computer for rendering but the triple chanel of the i7 might give you better perforance.

i7 will give the best performace, you could get a cheaper MB, and a cheaper cooler if you dont plan on overclocking and then get an SDD with the i7. Although i wouldnt get that kingston one as the controller is not very good. Maybe get the 80Gb Intel X25-M?

ok, first thing is i forgot the SSD was in the pic lol. i dont need that at the moment.

second i would like to OC to something over 3Ghz, with intel that should be easy so i read.

3rd, is that psu i have is good enuff to power it all?

forth, i was going to get the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R but im not sure if it takes Trip DDR3, i think its Dual. and the 6GB corsair is a deal.

but for what i want the computer for.

1.Silence
2.24/7 runtime
3.Preformance
4.Render/Encoding HD videos/Pictures
5.Price..

am i reachiung for the moon? with a £750 budget?

That's a pretty arbitrary figure (especially considering the AMD is already over 3Ghz), but yes the Intel should manage that.

If you#re after pure performance, the i7 is better, no contest. The only reason to pick the AMD would be for budget reasons.

The AMD should be paired with a £60 - £75 motherboard or you throw away it's main price advantage. Anyway, they seem to clock to much the same speed in any half decent board.

I would get this...
Intel Core i7 920 D0
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R
OCZ Platinum 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Triple Channel
Corsair H50-1
Total:£541.41
That gives you nearly £200 for a SSD..

If you are going to be rendering etc then get an i7, if you overclock it to anywhere near the 965, the i7 will slaughter the 965. i7 builds are more expensive, but worth it.
