Hi Guys

Could you help me Choose a AM4 Motherboard, Im not looking to spend too much on the board so the high end options are out for me.

Im a bit confused with the different boards available should I go for a B350 or X370

I want to stick in a 1700 or 1600 with the option to upgrade with the 2nd gen next year.

You'd really need to state a budget. Prices range from about 50 quid to over 200!

Sorry to hijack the post, I thought it was better to ask here as it's kind of relevant, is there any good reason why a £70 b350 motherboard shouldn't be purchased for a non overclocked gaming pc? Say paired with a Ryzen 1600 and 1060 or a 1070?

No reason at all but I would as a minimum get a board that has heatsinks on the VRM areas around the cpu socket.

I went for Gaming k5 and 1600 @ 4.8 , would have gone for Gaming k3 to keep the costs down if it was out but the k5 does look sweet with XTR card ... Or two :)

The K5 is a good looking board and my first choice at the moment.

How did you manage 4.8 off a 1600 ?
I may need so pointers in the future.

Sorry for the slight hijack, but does anyone have any thoughts on the Strix B350-F? I know there aren't many of them in the wild yet, but even looking at the specs and/or layout etc, what would ya think?

I run one and like it so far. Running a ryzen 1700 on 3.5ghz stock cooler and hyper x predator ram. Ram is currently running at 3200mhz although is rated at up to 3333mhz but wont boot above 3200 currently, stock timings but running cas18 rather than 16. Hoping bios updates bring more ram performance but so far im happy with it. I have a phanteks cooler so when get round to it i'll fit that and overclock bit more.

Not fussed for the rgb lighting but sometimes there is trouble with it staying on when turning off.

Thanks. I think I'll go for it... Looks like it has one of the better VRM heatsinks on a B350 board.
