help me choose

se k750 for a number of reasons but mainly - far superior camera, ease of use, build quality, battery life. Used both these phones in the last year and se wins hands down. Only reason i had to use the nokia was cause some scumbag nicked the se :( .

Complete opposite for me bar the point on the camera,

The 6230/i is one of the most robust and reliable phones IMO, bar the 6310i, better battery, better build quality, totally easier to use. However the Sony does have a better camera and better screen (slightly more capable software too). But if you just want a phone which you can rely on I would go for the Nokia.

Better battery

Quite the opposite if you actually look at the specs on the manufacturer website.. I've had both.. and I can easily say the K750i has the better battery life and far superior build quality.. SE are way above Nokia these days on design - the only thing that lets them down on the K750i is the joystick... you'd be better off getting a W810i.

I've had a different experience from you then it seems. Specs on battery life mean absolutely nothing. THey say the V3 can standby for 250 hours...... enough said.

At work, SO many people, mostly business type even upgrade from a 6230 to 6230i or even just get the same phone again. We also rarely get them in for repair (maybe once every 2 weeks?) whereas the sony comes in for all kinds of troubles maybe about 3 people a week come in. Considering how popular the 6230 is it does prove a point.

Hmm, not so convinced by manufacturers claims. I can't say I have had exactly the same as you have but fairly close I suppose as I've got the 6230(not the "i" version) and both the K750i and the W800i but I don't think that the Nokia in any way has a noticeably inferior battery life, the case maybe doesn't feel as sturdy because it has the easily replaceable covers but it stands up to a pretty serious amount of punishment - something my K750i failed to do(landing on it after coming off a bike does not equal a clever thing to do :o).

The joystick on both the K750i and W800i are/were both sticky within a few months of owning the phones and although the joysticks still work they aren't exactly easy or predictable in their responses. The camera on the K750i is way better and I'd say that mp3 support is also better but if those things don't bother you much I'd go with the 6230.
