Afternoon,

Due to a recent incident with a car and my bike wheel, its now buckled :(

I need to swap the sprocket set over, which is a 5 speed set. How the hell do I get it off the old rear wheel so I can transfer it?

Thanks :)

If its a 5 then it will be pretty old, so its hard to know what you will need.

Do you know that the sprocket set is compatible with the hub on your new wheel?

I'd say this was a job for a bike shop.

Yep, the sprocket set is compatible with the new hub - its identical to the old wheel I put on there :) I can't get the bike to the bike shop, thats the problem!

whenever I have taken off a casette ,it has needed quite a bit of force.A big rubber hammer helps :)Also make sure you are trying to undo it in the right direction (IIRC it's the opposite of the wheel rotation)

to be honest i think you need to go to the bike shop, the tools are pretty expensive, it may even be cheaper to just buy a new wheel with a sprocket on if you really cant get to a shop and need to do it on your own.

For screw on hubs its just a matter of having one of these and an adjustable spanner/vice or something to hold it in place.

Cassete + locking ring you need the cassete removal toll + the chain whip to hold it in place while you turn.

You would be lucky to get it off without the right tools. You could try a flathead screwdrive but you'll probably **** the thing up.
