Have tried to clock my rig with no joy. have read the overclocking help guid but just dont understand it, and not getting joy.

I have set all clocks back to normal so any advice you can offer would be great or a walk through on how to do this in very simple terms.

Motheboard is a Alive NF4G-DVI

Thanks

The idea is pretty simple. You need to find the setting for the memory divider and lower it down to take memory out of the equation.

Then you increase the FSB basically and run some stress tool. if it fails then you need more Vcore. Dont fry it tho. You need good cooling.

I dont think it can get simpler than Jokester's Guide. However, you need to first identify in your BIOS the settings the guide refers too and then try again.

Tha guide is VERY GOOD.

Hi,

The single most important thing I can see in your BIOS is to set the Overclock Operation Mode to [CPU, PCIe Async] and then set the PCIe clock to 100.

Also disable Cool'n'Quiet and anything that ends in Spectrum!

You haven't said what speed your RAM is, but set it to the next one down eg. if it's PC4200 (266MHz/533MHzDDRII) then set it to the 200/400MHzDDRII setting. That way, when you increase the CPU FSB, the RAM FSB will increase with it and you won't overclock the RAM until you massively overclock the CPU.

After that just try turning up the CPU until it stops loading into Windows. Then turn it back a few FSB and do a stability test.

Sound easy enough?

Ok think I get you so my ram is running at 533mhz stock so I turn that down to next speed of example 400mhz and then increase the FSB.

Before doing this disable the cool&quite, disable the spectrun stuff. Do the below.

The single most important thing I can see in your BIOS is to set the Overclock Operation Mode to [CPU, PCIe Async] and then set the PCIe clock to 100

Will give this a go and get back shortly.

O what fun,

Did the following

Disabled cool&quite
Disabled anything ending in Spectrum
Set memory to 400mhz
opperation mode to CPU,PCI-e,Async
WAS NOT able to change PCIe speed this went up automaticly when increased FSB
Increased FSB to 12x220 from 12x200

When restarted at that settings the PC locked up left 10 seconds and powered pc back on and CPU showed 2.02ghz???????

Went back into bios and checked fsb was still showing 12x220 that = 2640ghz to me???????

No idea why. Dam overclocking

Ok back in after some messing.

Multiplier is set to 12x

Have tried the following

215x12 = 2.59 Locked up and just went to black screen and stopped there
213x12 = 2.56 got to windows slid start bar and blue screened
210x12 = 2.53 Worked and running at this speed now.

So what next as if this is the limit no real point of clocking, also i need somthing that will tel me me my CPU tems so dont overheat.

And are you able to lock the PCIe bus to 100 now?

Ok, will give that a go so just drop the multipler 1 and start to increase the fsb agin.

Just for note my Board will only let me go to 1.35v???

Be back in 5

Ok back again, so dropped the multiplier down to 11 and increased the fsb to 230 to give me same speed as current.

Anyway the pc locked up and would not even get to the start of windows.

Am now back on 12x210????

OK - Mrs WJA96 says I have to have my tea now so I'll read the manual this evening, bone-up on A64 overclocking and I'll re-group for another go tomorrow eveing. Sorry we're not getting anywhere as quickly as I'd hoped, but I certainly wouldn't give up yet. I've just remembered something about turning down the hyper-transport bus as well. ;)
