Hi Folks,

I am really ****** off as my new build does not want to boot. I have an Antec 300, Antec TruePower 650w modular PSU, Asus Crosshair III, AMD X6 1090T, 4GB CORSAIR XMS3 (1600Ghz) RAM, 1TB SATA disk.

I have spent 3-4 hours installing all of the bits being ultra careful and when I power the system on, everything appears to be working/running, except I don't get an output on my monitor, no beeps just nothing. Not sure what I am supposed to do now.

The manual states when powering on for the first time, the system runs the power on self tests, while the tests are running, the BIOS beeps or additional messages appear on the screen.

Well I have the little LCD panel from the motherboard and it just shows the time the system has been powered on for, nothing else.

The graphics card I am re-using is an nvidia Quadro FX570 (http://www.nvidia.com/docs/IO/40049/quadro_fx_570_datasheet.pdf)

It says the graphics bus is PCI Express x16 which I assume should be OK? I actually have two of these cards that I know are working and have tried both, with no joy.

Am I forgetting something here?

On the Power Connectors section of the motherboard, the manual says do not forget to connect the 8-pin EATX12 V power plug, otherwise the system will not boot. Is this my problem? The only power connector to the motherboard I have is the 24-pin EATXPWR. I can see the place on the motherboard where an 8-pin EATX12 V connector is supposed to go but I can't find the connector in the bundle of cables that came with the PSU.

HELP!

You have just answered your own question. You haven't connected the 8-pin connector. This is for the CPU (Processor) If you don't connect this then it wont turn on at all and you will get exactly what you described (Nothing)

Here is a photo of the connector that you are missing out. The PSU that you mentioned definitely has the right connector, your just not looking hard enough. Once you plug that into the slot then you should be good to go providing you haven't missed anything else.

Here's a photo to help you identify the connector in question

I forgot to mention, some motherboards come with a little white cap over 4 of the pins. If this is the case providing you really cant find the 8 pin connector, you should be fine using a 4 pin connector, which you would definitely have got 100%.

Connect either the 8 or the 4 pin into the slot in question and you should be good to go.

It might look like two square four pin connectors split, they click together to form the 8pin connector you need. It will only go in if it is the correct one anyways due to the arrangement of pin shapes.

Assuming it is the new TP-650 then these are the connectors: http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/connectors.php?ProdID=23652

The one you want is in the middle of the top row "1 x 8 Pin EPS 12V"

Thanks so much guys, I'm such a ***** :)

I found this cable and removed the blanking cap to reveal the full 8 pin connector on the motherboard. Can get into the BIOS now so I'm a step further.

I guess now I need to instsall windows then update the motherboard bios to the latest version to support my CPU?

Any other advice - anything I should configure in the BIOS in particular?

Erm... I'm tempted to say just leave it alone if it's working fine, to avoid potential problems... but that's never much fun is it.

I would set your ram to run at it's correct rated voltage, it should tell you on the packet, the website or even on the product page wherever you bought it from. Set the timings to what there supposed to be aswell.

Other than that, just get setting that first boot device to your dvd drive and get installing windows and enjoy :)

Glad we could help.

Thanks again. I've updated to the latest BIOS and it now detects my CPU as X6 1090. Installed windows and will start to update bit. Cheers.
