Help needed regarding transfers

I'll be compiling a list of transfers of the top clubs since the Premiership began. I have one problem so far, every website I've been to displays transfers in different years. For instance one says Craig Bellamy was signed 22-06-06 and has it under the transfers for 05/06. But another has the transfer on 1-7-06 and it's under 06/07. This will of course skew any figures if one transfer is in the wrong place. Can anyone clarify the specifics for what year a transfer should go under? Any help appreciated.

I would imagine that transfers up to the end of June 2006 would be under the 2005/06 season and as of July the first it becomes the 2006/2007 season, as the transfer window opens as of the start of July.
E.g.
30/06/2006 would be in the 2005/06 season; and
1/07/2006 would be in the 2006/07 season

Cheers Baz, that's what I thought. Would you classify Bellamy as 05/06 or 06/07, he signed for Liverpool on the 22nd June but wasn't officially a Liverpool player until 1/7/06? Or is that how it works, if you sign someone at the end of a season, they don't officially become a player until the 1st July? I can see I'm going to have a lot of fun doing this.

Well myself I'd class anyone signed after the end of the season, so anytime in May, as a next season signing surely?

Example Dimitar Berbatov was signed by Spurs in May 2006 but he's classed as a 2006/07 signing as he could not have made his debut until the start of the next season.

Well he couldn't officially sign until 1st July so i would put it as a 2006/07 transfer.
